The heart of man is the control room of his life. That is where thoughts are produced. These thoughts give birth to words and actions. Either good or bad, the thoughts produce its own kind. The Bible tells us expressly that a bad tree cannot produce good fruits and vice versa. The same is true of a bad and a good heart. The words we speak and the actions we take are all manufactured from the laboratory of the heart, through our thoughts and imaginations.

Jeremiah 17:9 says that, “the heart of man is desperately wicked, who can know it?” This is a serious question that only you and God can answer. Why? Because God knows the heart of all men and, of course, you know who you are and what you think or imagine always. Don’t forget that the devil also recognises his disciples. Are you one of them? I pray not!

The heart of man is like the soil upon which seeds are sown. The products of these seed greatly determine who you are. Hypocrisy, deception, falsehood, negative thoughts and imaginations are rudiments of satanic works. Whosoever engages in them is nurturing evil seeds and would eventually germinate into a full-grown plant that will produce fruits.

Remember, whatever your heart produces is what you say and do. This directly informs your personality. You are known by your words and actions. Even when you put up a cloak of pretense, yet by your fruits you shall be known (Matthew 7:20).

The Preacher in the book of Proverbs, as stated in today’s memory verse, did not hesitate to warn us to guard our hearts jealousy because issues of life proceed from there. The Psalmist in Psalm 19:14 wrote, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in thy sight O Lord my God and my Redeemer.” This is a further confirmation that the heart and the mouth are intimately connected, not only biologically but also spiritually. You cannot afford to be careless with your thoughts. The devil is seeking to contaminate and pollute it. You need God’s help, but you must rise to the challenge by disciplining your heart and taming your thoughts. You may need to cry to God like the Psalmist in Psalm 51:10. He will answer you by fire, in the name of Jesus.
