Topic: The Righteous Judge
[DCLM Daily Manna 29 August 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]
Text: Psalm 75:1-10 (KJV)
1 Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.
2 When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly.
3 The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.
4 I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:
5 Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck.
6 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.
7 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.
8 For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.
9 But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10 All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.
Key Verse: “But God is the judge; he putteth down one and setteth up another” (Psalm 75:7).
MESSAGE:
Every purpose of God has its own time and it manifests as ordained by the Almighty. As for the judgment of the world, He has ordained a time for that. A time when the righteous shall be taken away and rewarded but all the wicked of the earth shall be judged for their wickedness and sinfulness.
From our text, God is apparently not in a hurry to judge the world because He is not willing that any should perish. Howbeit, He warns the fools who had concluded in their hearts that there is no God. He calls on the wicked and the arrogant to forsake their wickedness and haughtiness.
Although God is patiently waiting for the wicked to turn away from their evil way and embrace the loving Saviour, Jesus Christ, the fact of His return is certain; He will surely come and judge the world in righteousness, no matter how long it takes. In essence, God’s judgment looms over the wicked. He has the cup of His fury at hand to be poured upon sinners who will voluntarily drink of it. If you are still in the pool of sin and wickedness, it is not late yet. “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: let the wicked forsake his way; and the unrighteous man his thoughts…” (Isaiah 55:6,7).
As the end of all things draw near, believers must remain firm in their conviction; sinners and backsliders must make haste to be saved and restored because our God is a righteous judge.
Thought For The Day: Seek the Lord today, escape His wrath tomorrow.
