MESSAGE

When the Bible says in 1 Samuel 16:7 that God looks at the heart and not the outward appearance, it does not mean that you should look shabby. You must look neat, wear good clothes, smell nice. be well-shaven if you are a boy, make your hair neatly if you are a girl, and represent Jesus well. Many Christians repel unbelievers by the way they look and this needs to be worked on. As a mother, I make it a point of duty to dress well always within and outside my home because I don’t know who I will meet or who will come to me.

In 1 Samuel 16, when God told Samuel to go to Jesse’s house and anoint a king for Him, Samuel looked at Eliab and thought he looked fit to be king, but God warned him not to look at the outward appearance. However, when David was brought on the scene, he was introduced by his outward appearance in the memory verse. This invariably means that God is interested in both the outward and inward appearance. Thus, don’t hide under the scripture; you should set an example everywhere you find yourself.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 64-66

KEY POINT:

Your appearance should always bring glory to God.

HYMN 19: Jesus Loves Me! This I Know

  1. Jesus loves me! this I know,
    For the Bible tells me so;
    Little ones to Him belong;
    They are weak, but He is strong.

CHORUS
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,
The Bible tells me so.

  1. Jesus loves me He who died,
    Heaven’s gate to open wide,
    He will wash away my sin,
    Let His little child come in.
  2. Jesus loves me, loves me still,
    Tho’ I’m very weak and ill
    From His shining throne on high
    He will watch me where I lie.
  3. Jesus loves me He will stay
    Close beside me all the way,
    If I love Him when I die
    He will take me home on high.
