Topic : Positive Resistance
As a Christian, you are part of
God’s resistance movement
against evil.
During the days of World War II, a number of resistance movements sprang up in countries that had been occupied by Nazi Germany. These movements (sometimes referred to as “the Underground”) sought
to free the occupied country through acts of non- cooperation, disinformation, hiding downed pilots, and even outright warfare. The resistance fighters took the stance that they were not going to stand idly
by and allow Hitler’s evil to continue. They would choose to resist the wrongs,
whatever the cost to them personally.
As a believer in Christ, you are also part of a resistance movement against evil. But your resistance to your enemy, the devil, is accomplished through prayer. Peter wrote, “Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may
devour . . . resist him, [standing] steadfast in the faith” (1 Peter 5:8–9). James echoed this teaching:
“Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:7–8). You are to actively resist evil through your persevering prayers.
