TEXT: RCCG House Fellowship
Mark 16:17-20:
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
John 14:12-14:
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
2 Kings 1:9-17:
9 Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down.
10 And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
11 Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.
12 And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
13 And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.
14 Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight.
15 And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.
16 And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron, is it not because there is no God in Israel to enquire of his word? therefore thou shalt not come down off that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.
17 So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram reigned in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son.
PRAYER POINTRCCG House Fellowship
Father, grant me the grace to demonstrate power as of old, Amen.
INTRODUCTION: Power is an English logical construct referring to a variety of ideas relating to ability, capacity, authority, and might or strength. In human relationships, power is the authority one person holds over another. The power of God that breaks yokes, casts down imagination and performs great things, still exists, as in the days of old. Luke 10:19 says, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you”. The Bible also says in 1 Corinthians 4:20 “For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power”. Also in Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth”.
Examples In The Scriptures, Where God Manifested His Power
1. David confronted Goliath with five smooth stones and a sling. 1 Samuel 17:4-51
2. Gideon, son of Joash the Abiezrite in Judges 6:1-40
i. He threw down the altar of baal which his father had;
ii. He cut down the idol pole that was by it;
iii. He fought against the Midianites and won with only three hundred men; and
iv. He built an altar for God; he was able to manifest God’s power in his life
3. Despite Moses’ weaknesses, God emboldened him, gave him utterance, made Aaron, his brother, his Spokesman, gave him courage to face and speak to the hard hearted Pharaoh to release the Israelites. Exodus 4:1-31, Exodus 5:1-23
4. Elijah the Tishbite in 1 Kings 18:1-46
5. Elisha in 2 Kings 2:9-24
6. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in Daniel 3:1-30
7. The Apostles in Acts 4:31
8. Stephen in Acts 6:8
Why Do We Need This Power?
1. To witness Christ to the world. Acts 1:8
2. To do exploit for God.
3. For the manifestations of Christ Jesus. Matthew 28:18
4. To prevent our hearts from fainting. Isaiah 40:29
5. To prepare us as God’s battle axes. Jeremiah 51:20
CONCLUSION: Jesus stretched forth His hand and touched those who have infirmities, and they were instantly healed. He is willing and able to stretch forth His hand and do more today like He did in the days of old. The Lord will still work wonders in this dispensation if we will not limit Him by our unbelief.
