How To Keep Your Heart Diligently

Table of Contents

There are two principal routes through which our hearts give birth to our thoughts: The eyes, the ears

Everything that passes through these two gives rise to our thinking. It makes sense why the Bible says it in Proverbs. 4:23.

Your heart is where life’s problems originate; therefore, guard it with all your might.

Every visual impression we have has a way of playing back in our emotions. It will continue to play in our hearts if we read the Bible every day and absorb the word of God, and it will do the opposite if we give our sight to negative things.

Whatever we give our ears to will gradually shape our hearts and minds, just like our sight does. What kind of songs, sermons, and conversations do we listen to?

All of these frequently influence the bulk of our ideas. We have observed that when we overhear a certain song, we begin to sing it instinctively.

A biblical viewpoint on the heart
Matthew 12:34b says “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

This verse tries to illustrate to us that the state of our hearts determines our behaviors, including our speech. Everything we say is an accumulation of what is in our hearts.

If they are positive thoughts, we would anticipate a positive speech, and if they are negative ideas, we should unquestionably anticipate a negative speech.

To regulate what comes out of our mouths, we must first purify our unclean hearts. To purify our polluted hearts, we must be mindful of what enters the heart through our eyes and ears.

2 Samuel 11:2-4 Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house.NKJV.

Verse 4 and verse 15 show the consequences of David’s decision to let his sight corrupt his heart;

He had sex with another man’s wife in verse 4.
He killed the woman’s husband, Uriah, in verse 15.
A dirty heart often has negative effects. It inevitably leads to problems in life, which brings us to the next verse:

Proverbs 4:23 “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.“

Our hearts will be good and pure if we can control what we let into them through our eyes and ears.
