Topic: Be Equitable
[DCLM Daily Manna 5 October 2018 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi] Text: Deuteronomy 21:15-21 (KJV)

Key Verse: “If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated: Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn“ (Deuteronomy 21:15,16).

MESSAGE:

Human frailties are a common deficiency that even the patriarchs were not immune from.
From the text today, God instructed Israel through Moses that should there be a case of a man who dislikes the wife that gave birth to his first born, such hatred must not be transferred to the son by denying him the right of the first born. He must duly acknowledge him as the first born by giving him a double portion of all his possessions.

Partiality is evil. It causes disaffection and friction in families, communities and nations. Unfortunately, in the church, which ought to be “the pillar and ground of the truth”, there have been many reported cases of prejudice due to tribal affiliations, social standing, wealth, education and so on. This ought not to be, since Christ is not divided. Church leaders must ensure all such matters are promptly corrected and disposed of as in the early church. The Church of Christ is the symbol of His presence on earth and must be characterised by true and equal love among the brethren. The spirit of unity in true fellowship exist only where those who are more endowed spiritually or materially are joyfully sharing their resources with others in an atmosphere of love.

Christ has built His Church upon the rock that the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Every believer has the duty to contribute towards upholding a strong assembly. Let us eschew rancour, fault-finding, impatience, loose talk, unforgiving spirit, and endeavour to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace, till we reach the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 4:3,13).

Thought For The Day: It is pleasant for brethren to dwell in unity.
