Topic: Unassailable Teaching
[DCLM Daily Manna 3 July 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]
Text: Matthew 5:21-26 (KJV)
Key Verse: “Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift” (Matthew 5:24).
MESSAGE:
According to oceanographers, there are two types of waves that operate in the frigid waters of Greenland. They identify tiny floating icebergs that are swayed in one direction by surface winds. But there are also bigger sky-projecting icebergs which move in another route, carried along by deep ocean currents. Although both small and big icy rocks experience some measure of movement, the larger enjoy more stable control not affected by the gales on the surface.
Our lives are also influenced by two dissimilar forces: weak, unpredictable and unstable doctrines that will not go far beyond this world but lead to eternal damnation and durable, unassailable and reliable teaching that speak of the deep flow of God’s unchanging love. This is the deep-seated message Jesus Christ brought to the world to contrast with the old Pharisaic teachings which focused more on the outside. They condoned worship while offences were yet to be resolved.
Cases of backsliding and adulterated worship in some churches today are to be traced to halfway teaching and lack of time for God’s word. Another cause is that we fail to follow the example of the Berean brethren. After Paul and Silas had taught them from the Scriptures, they went into their closet and “searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so”.
Christ’s message exhorts us to obey God’s laws in the heart, not merely on the outside. What keeps us firm when the storms break is feeding on the Word continually. If we absorb the Lord’s teachings, we won’t be tossed about by weak doctrinal principles.
Thought For The Day: Only the deep-seated currents of Jesus’ doctrine can see us through the storms of life.
