Topic: Don’t Go The Opposite Way
[DCLM Daily Manna 15 April 2020 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]
Text: Joshua 23:14-16
14 And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.
15 Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the Lord your God promised you; so shall the Lord bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the Lord your God hath given you.
16 When ye have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.
KEY VERSE: “Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you; so shall the LORD bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you” (Joshua 23:15).
MESSAGE:
God’s laws are immutable and His words, unchangeable. His decrees defy the caprices of men and His statutes transcend the variation in times. These explain why mankind has to yield to and obey His commandments without any reservation.

Although the people of Israel had promises of God’s blessing premised on obedience to His commandment, they also had the unmistakable assurance of curses and woes should they disobey. The same conditions still apply today irrespective of race, age, social standing, education, wealth, position or influence of man.
The way of sin is a downhill route. Joshua states the fatal consequences of going back from the way of righteousness. As it applied to the Israelites at that time, so does it apply to all people today: the way of sin is the way of ruin. The first step usually is friendship with the ungodly; the next is getting into marriage relationship with them, doing recreation with them and a gradual emulation of their pernicious ways.
If we would cleave to the Lord, then we must always stand upon our guard for many souls are lost through carelessness. Love the Lord your God. He is faithful Who has promised. We should trust His faithfulness, love, and power; ask for His mercy and obey His commandments. Conflicts may have been severe and long; trials, great and many, but in the end, we will be able to acknowledge that His goodness and mercy followed us all the days of our life.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The downward route is a deadly route. Keep off!
