TOPIC: The Vine and The Branch

READ: John 15: 5-11 King James Version (KJV)

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

THE MESSAGE:

An introduction to Vine/Branch relationship was made in the Devotion of 23rd June, 2019. The summary of the relationship is stated in verse 5: I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit, for without Me, you can do nothing. Verse 6 describes the danger of not abiding as follows:

(1) The person is thrown out like a branch, indicating loss of fellowship
(2) The person withers and dies, indicating a loss of spiritual vitality
(3) The person is burned, indicating a loss of reward

According to verse 7, the mutuality (of abiding) is the basis of answered prayer by the Father. When a prayer is miraculously answered, more people are drawn to Christ (Acts 3:11).

The text explains the heart of Christianity. You are saved by the grace of God that resulted from His love for you. You remain in God’s love by loving Him and the brethren (1 John 4: 19 -21). Fullness of Joy comes from knowing that you please God in obedience to His commandments concerning love, the first fruit of the Spirit. Your love for God is measured by your love for the brethren and God’s work. What is your love-life like?

Prayer: Pray for a heart deeply in love with Jesus and the brethren.
