TOPIC: THE GODLY VIRTUE OF CONTENTMENT
SCRIPTURE: ‘…, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,That I will not take from a thread even to a shoe latchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:’ GENESIS 14:22, 23.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Abraham was always contented with what God gave him per time.
The life of Abraham, the father of faith in the Scripture is worth emulating.
Contentment was a major character of Abraham. He was always contented with what God gave him per time. He was one example of people who refused to take what did not belong to them despite the temptation to do so. He was positively affected by his lifestyle of financial uprightness. He refused to take money or possession un-righteously.
In Genesis Chapter Fourteen, Lot, Abraham’s nephew, who lived in Sodom, was taken captive. When Abraham heard of it, he armed his trained servants and went after Lot’s captors. He recovered all the captives of Sodom including his nephew and their possessions. Then the king of Sodom met Abraham on his return from conquering the captors and rescuing the captives and told Abraham to give him the persons but take the possessions. In reply, Abraham said:
‘ …, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
That I will not take from a thread even to a shoe latchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:’ Genesis 14:22, 23.
LAbraham made up his mind not to take what he was not given; he refused to take what was not his. That was financial uprightness and integrity.
As a result of his decision not to take what did not belong to him, God elevated him with riches beyond measure.
In Genesis 13:2, the Bible makes it clear that Abraham was very rich in cattle, in silver and in gold.
It is clear that the secret of Abraham’s wealth was that he refused to take what was not his; he refused to take what God had not given him. Seeds Of Destiny 26th March 2020 – THE POWER OF THE COVENANT
You see, financial integrity leads to financial abundance; financial uprightness is the root of financial plenteousness.
REMEMBER THIS: Abraham was always contented with what God gave him per time.
