BIBLE PASSAGE: Matthew 8:5-13 KJV (RCCG Sunday School TEACHER’s Manual 29 December 2019)

5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,

6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.

7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.

8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.

12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

MEMORY VERSE: “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” – Psalms 107:20 (scroll down for RCCG Sunday School 29 December 2019 HYMN)

LESSON INTRODUCTION: It is not the plan of God for any of His children to be sick. In fact, God’s intentions are that they never have to be sick, tired or weary (3 John 2). His plan is to constantly renew their strength as they spend time with Him (Isaiah 40:28-31). He wants us to have all round wholeness (physical, emotional, spiritual, etc) so that it will be well with us (Isa. 3:10). Peradventure we fall sick, God has made provision for our healing (Ps.107:20). However, Divine healing is subject to a condition of absolute obedience to God’s command.

2 LESSON OUTLINES

LESSON OUTLINE 1: HEALING IS CHILDREN’S BREAD

A. Without any doubt, the wages of sin is death and one prominent agent/vehicle of death is sickness/disease.

B. One of the reasons sin may hinder healing is that it makes it impossible for God to hear the prayer of the sinful sick who calls for healing without repenting first (Isa. 59:1-2; Matt. 15:21-26).

C. A child of God is clearly someone who has been cleaned from sin (John 1:11-12; 1 John 3:9).

i. He/she must be dead to sin and alive to the Holy Spirit.

ii. The Holy Spirit sees to it that His temple (1 Cor. 6:19) remains vitally healthy.

D. Healing is God’s children because they are cleansed from their sins and the Holy Spirit dwells in them (Rom. 8:11).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Why is divine healing meant for only believers?

LESSON OUTLINE 2: CONDITIONS FOR DIVINE HEALING

A. God’s word is forever settled (Ps. 119:89).

B. His desire is that we repent and be healed. (Ezekiel. 18:32; 33:11).

C. Through His word, God does not only heal and also delivers (Ps. 107:20. Prov. 4:20-22).

D. There are certain things that you must do to receive your healing through the word:

i. You must not negate what He has said but believe His word (Prov. 18:7; 2 Kings 4:21-26; 36-37).

ii. You must repent genuinely from your sins and be ready to live in absolute obedience to God’s command (Ps. 119:11).

iii. You must cry to God for help (Ps. 107:17-20).

iv. Be ready for your healing through a strong faith (Mark 5:25-29).

E. Divine healing can be instant (Ps. 147:15; Matt. 8:8, 13) or progressive (Luke 17:13-14; 2 Kings 5:10).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Discuss the role of faith and patience in divine healing in line with Mark 7:25-30.

SUMMARY: God is only healer of any sickness or disease. Therefore, live holy in order to enjoy divine healing.

CONCLUSION: The Lord Jesus never spoke to sickness and diseases but to the people who needed healings. Therefore, if anyone will just listen to Him and obey His instructions, such a fellow can receive His healing too. However, to receive your healing, you must agree with Him and do what is right.

EVALUATION: State five (5) necessary steps to divine healing.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, please heal all Your children suffering from terminal diseases.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention five (5) sicknesses/diseases in the world today that medical science has not been able to cure and requires divine healing.
