What is today known as The King’s Court of the Redeemed Christian Church of God was birthed when Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, Pastor Jide Koku and Pastor Spencer Onosode, then ushers and workers in the technical department of RCCG – Freedom Hall, were sent out with their wives to plant a parish in Victoria Island, Lagos. RCCG Freedom Hall was one of the “Model Parishes” birthed out of the General Overseer’s vision of reaching out to the educated and elite members of the society with the gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The “Model Parishes” were driven by a spirit of excellence in every sphere of life.
RCCG The Kings Court LAGOS started out on the 22nd of October, 1995 at the Lagoon Restaurant – Ozumba Mbadiwe Way, Victoria Island. The first service entitled “Jesus the Hope of Nations” was a breakfast service and recorded an attendance of 745. This number dropped sharply to 15 by the next Sunday. The church however soon continued to grow but at the end of the first year, it received a rude shock when it was given two weeks by the management of the Lagoon Restaurant to vacate. It was a trying period for the church as we literally “wandered in the wilderness” worshipping in car parks, uncompleted buildings and people homes. The Lord finally led us to a location on Plot 1387 Olosa Street, Victoria Island where the Lord blessed and increased us on every side from where we finally moved to our permanent site in the heart of the business district of Victoria Island, a befitting edifice for our God The Eternal King, The City Church situated at 3, Keystone Bank Crescent, Near Nigerian Law School, right beside Keystone Bank Headquarters off Adeyemo Alakija Street in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. The future is very bright and we are destined for exceeding greatness in all spheres of life.
The King’s Court is a family church where the full and undiluted Word of God is preached; where strong family values are upheld; where the love of God is expressed in word and deed; where brethren receive encouragement and support to fulfill their destinies in Christ; where work and faith are integrated and where people with the Spirit of excellence and integrity are developed.
