6 He hath also stablished them for ever and ever: he hath made a decree which shall not pass.

7 Praise the LORD from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps:

8 Fire, and hail; snow, and vapour; stormy wind fulfilling his word:

9 Mountains, and all hills; fruitful trees, and all cedars:

10 Beasts, and all cattle; creeping things, and flying fowl:

11 Kings of the earth, and all people; princes, and all judges of the earth:

12 Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children:

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Worshipping and praising God become glorious when believers call God by His names. The names do God used in the bible also act as a roadmap to learning about His character. God’s names also reveal His true nature to us. His nature and character remain constant through all generations. The names of God help us experience how majestic God is, how deeply He loves us and what He can do for us. Knowing the names of God will help us to put our trust in Him. (Ps.9:10; Pro.18:10).

2 LESSON OUTLINES

LESSON OUTLINE 1: GOD’S GENERIC NAME

The word ‘ELOHIM’ translated as GOD (Gen.1:1), is derived from the Hebrew word ‘EL’ which means strength or might, is generic (comprehensive) name of God. The compound form of ‘EL’ can be seen in the following manes among others:

EL-gibbowr “Might God” (Isa.9:6)

EL-elyown “The Most High God” (Gen.14:18-20; Eccl.5:8).

EL-gadowlwaw yare “The Great and Terrible God” (Deut.7:21).

EL- Shaddy”The Almighty God “(Gen.17:1).

EL-‘elohey Yisras’el ” The God of Israel “(Gen.33:20).

EL-owlam “The everlasting God” (Gen.21:33).

El-aman “The faithful God” (Deut.7:9.

EL-qannow “The jealous God” (Josh.24:19).

EL-ro’iy “The God who sees”(Gen.16:13).

EL-channuwmwawrachuwn ” The gracious and merciful God”(Jonah 4:2).

EL-qadowsh “God the holy one” (Josh.24:19).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Class should mention other compound forms of God’s generic names known to them.

LESSON OUTLINE 2: GOD’S PERSONAL NAME

A. Teacher should explain that Yahweh or Jehovah is the personal name of God. It is not a title like ‘Adonai’ translated ‘Lord'(Jer.33:2, Ps.110:1). It is the same name by which God introduced Himself as ‘I AM THAT I AM’ (Ex.3:13-14). In the compound from, we have:

Jehovah. Rapha “The Lord who heals” (Ex.15:26).

Jehovah Rohi “The Lord my Shepherd “(Ps.23:1).

Jehovah Tsidkenu “The Lord our righteousness” (Jer.23:6).

Jehovah Qadash “The Lord who sanctifies”(Lev.20:8).

Jehovah Nissi “The Lord my banner”(Ex.17:15).

Jehovah Shammah “The Lord is there” (Ezek.48:35).

Jehovah Sabaoth “The Lord of Host” (Isa.13:4).

Jehovah Jireh “The Lord who provides” (Gen.22:14).

Jehovah Shalom “The Lord my peace” (Judges 6:24).

B. Believers expecting God’s manifestation in any situation or circumstances should worship Him by calling Him His names attributed to that situation. For instance, God should be worshipped as Jehovah Jireh when one is in need of divine provisions.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Class should mention some circumstances of life and the names of God applicable to them.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, let the power in Your name be effective in every situation of my life.
