BIBLE PASSAGE: Romans 12:1-2 KJV (RCCG Sunday School TEACHER’s Manual 6 October 2019)

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

MEMORY VERSE: “For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the LORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.” – Exodus 32:29 (scroll down for RCCG Sunday School 6 October 2019 HYMN)

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Consecration is a process or practice of making something or someone sacred, dedicated and set apart for the Lord. Consecration also carries the connotation of sanctification, holiness or purity. Being consecrated is a critical component in our relationship to God and to those in the world (Rom. 12:1-2). Consecration is also a devotion to the worship or service of God which can occur through God (Num. 3:12), a higher spiritual authority (Exo. 28:41) or self (Exo. 32:29). Consecration involves three ideas; separation from evil, devotion to God and ceaseless pursuit of holiness in heart and life.

i. God asked Moses to consecrate Aaron and his sons to His service as priests (Exo. 28:41).

ii. God consecrated the Levite’s to Himself (Num. 3:12).

iii. Jeremiah was consecrated even before he was born (Jer. 1:5).

iv. Samuel was consecrated (1 Sam. 1:27-28).

v. Prophet Samuel also consecrated Jesse and his sons (1 Sam. 6:15).

viii. Paul and Barnabas were consecrated for a special assignment (Acts 13:2-3).

ix. The consecration of John the Baptist was declared by an angel (Lk. 1:13-16).

The call to personal consecration demands that one:

i. Presents himself wholly to God (Rom. 12:1; 2 Chron. 17:16).

ii. Be willing to purge himself of all filthiness of the flesh and the spirit (2 Tim. 2:21; 2 Cor. 7:1)

iii. Absolutely comply with divine instructions given by God in His word (John 17:17; Ps. 119:9; Eph. 5:26).

iv. “Put-off” the old man and “put-on” the new man (Col. 3:5-14).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Class should discuss what it means to “put-off” the old man and “put-on” the new man.

LESSON OUTLINE 2: BENEFITS OF CONSECRATION

A clear benefit of being consecrated or pure in our relationship with God as illustrated in Joshua 3:5 is to enjoy the wonders of God.

i. Grace to truly follow God unto all pleasing (Lev. 20:7; Col. 1:10)

ii. Overflowing blessing (Exo. 32:29).

iii. Overflowing anointing (Heb. 1:9; Acts 10:38).

iv. Becoming a chosen vessel of God (2 Tim. 2:21; Acts 9:15).

v. Outstanding victory without a fight (Prov. 16:17; 2 Chron. 20:15-19).

vi. Ever abiding presence of God (Ps. 91:1-2; Joshua 3:1-5).

vii. Freedom from condemnation (Rom. 8:1-2).

viii. Confidence in prayer (1 John 3:21-22).

ix. Spiritual power (Rom. 1:1-4).

x. Father-child relationship (2 Cor. 6:14-18).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should identify the disadvantages of not being consecrated.

SUMMARY: Sin is defilement (Ps. 51:2,7). We should learn from the examples of those called to consecration in the Bible.

CONCLUSION: Every believer that will genuinely walk with God and reign with Him eternally must yield to the call to consecration (Isa. 52:11).

EVALUATION: Teachers should ask the students to describe the term consecration.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, consecrate me now for your use.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention five (5) reasons some believers find it difficult to stay consecrated.
