MEMORY VERSE: “Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.” – Proverbs 5:18

BIBLE PASSAGE: Proverbs 5:15-20 KJV (RCCG Sunday School TEACHER’s Manual 15 March 2020)

15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee.

18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

INTRODUCTION:

Marriage is a sacred vow between a man a woman publicly acknowledged, permanently sealed and physically consummated. Bliss in marriage means having spiritual, physical and emotional Joy in your marriage. Therefore, marriage must be based on agreement – Amos 3:3, nurtured with love continuously. It also requires adjustments and sacrifices by both the husband and wife (Colossians 3:18-19).

NOTE: The word “bliss” could mean: happiness, Joy, felicitation, gladness, blessedness etc.

TEXT REVIEW: Proverbs 5;15-20

“Let them only be thine own and not strangers…” Prov. 5:17

King Solomon by this statement presents what looks like a “Certificate of ownership” to spouses in true love in marriage. The beauty of love and the joy of unity or oneness were contained in this “Verse of love”

ACTIVITY: Teacher should identify the other descriptions of marital bliss in Pro. 5:15-20

LESSON OUTLINES:

1. FOUNDATION FOR MARITAL BLISS

A. Teacher should distribute the following Bible passages to the students (preferably ten or more students) and ask them to read and relate them to a blissful marriage

i. (Eccl. 5:4-6), ii. (Proverbs 4:5-6) iii. (Luke 17:3-4), iv. (Proverbs 5:15-20; 1John 3:18).

v. (Proverbs 16:28). vi. (Romans 12:17-18, 21).

vii. (Luke 14:28; Proverbs 18:15). viii. (James 1:19), ix. (S. Sol. 4:1,7; Ephesians 5:21).

x. (1Corinthians 7:5).

B. Teacher should look out for the following key words or phrase in the students’ explanations and where the key word

i. (Eccl. 5:4-6) truthfulness to vow (marriage vow to one another)

ii. (Proverbs 4:5-6) Wisdom of God to deal

iii. Luke 17:3-4). Willingness to forgive at all time

iv. (Proverbs 5:15-20; 1John 3:18) Bond of love, romance and intimacy

v. (Proverbs 16:28) Right and appropriate limit boundary with third party

vi. (Romans 12:17-18, 21). Conflicts resolution no winner approach

vii. (Luke 14:28; Proverbs 18:15). Financial planning, Prudence and intelligence.

viii. (James 1:19). Effective communication, listening and been expressive

ix. (S. Sol. 4:1,7; Ephesians 5:21). Gratitude Appreciation etc

x. (1Corinthians 7:5), sex in marriage

NOTE: All other students in the class should also be allowed to contribute

2. ELEMENTS OF CONTINUOUS MARITAL BLISS

A. Teacher should state the following elements of continuously marital bliss:

i. Intense/regular prayers and fellowship (Matthew 18:19; S.Sol. 2:10,13).

ii. Thanksgiving and acknowledgement to God (1Thessalonians 5:18).

iii. Training of children in God’s way (Genesis 18:19; Proverbs 22:6).

iv. unlimited companionship (Genesis 2:24-25).

v. Make Heaven ultimate goal

CLASS ACTIVITY:
Teacher should ask the students to explain how these elements could lead to continuous marital bliss.

NOTE: Students who participate should score 10 marks.

SUMMARY:
According to the lesson, the foundation for blissful marriage has 10 components and for the marriage to continue to blossom, five elements are essential as indicated in today’s lesson

CONCLUSION:
A blissful relationship can take some work and sacrifices. It also requires constant attention. If properly nurtured, it will thrive, but if neglected, it will wither and die.

EVALUATION:
Mention ten components of foundations for a marital bliss and five elements for a continuous marital bliss.

CLOSING PRAYER:
Father, please let our marriage continue to blossom in peace, joy, harmony and blessings

ASSIGNMENT:
Identify 10 elements of marital woes.
