Bible Passage: I Corinthians 15:1-23
(Sunday School TEACHER’s Manual July 15, 2018)
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL MANUAL 15TH JULY, 2018
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL MANUAL 15TH JULY, 2018
10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
11 Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.
12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.
16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL MANUAL 15TH JULY, 2018
23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
MEMORY VERSE: “And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:” – Job 19:26
LESSON INTRODUCTION: rccg manaul
The question of whether or not there is life after death is as old as man himself. For example, Job asked the question several years before Christ was born….”lf a man die, shall he live again?” iob 14:14a. Somehow, man knew the answer to the question…”And though after wry skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God”. Job 19:26. Yes, there is life after death. The dead shall rise again. Let us study the scriptures for answers to the following questions on resurrection.

TEXT REVIEW: 1 COR.15:1-23
Those who claimed that Christ did not rise or that there was no resurrection must have been ignorant of the existence of I Corinthians 15:1-23. Apostle Paul heard of their ignorance and corrected it as follows:
i. Christ died, was buried and rose on the third day. I Cor. 15:3-4
ii. The evidence of those who saw Him after death was borne by the likes of Cephas, the twelve disciples, the five hundred brethren, the Apostle James, Apostle Paul himself, etc. I Cor. 15:5-8
iii. The place of grace to see the resurrected Christ was prominent. This testimony was borne by Paul, “last of all was seen by me… who persecuted the Church…. But by grace bestowed upon me”. I Cor. 15:8-10. RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL MANUAL 15TH JULY, 2018
iv. Apostle Paul revealed that if Christ had not risen, then:
- a. Believers’ preaching would be in vain. I Cor. 15:14
- b. Believers’ faith would be in vain. I Cor.15:14/17
- c. Believers would have remained sinners. I Cor. 15:17
- d. Believers who had died would perish in the grave forever. V.18
v. Adam died and we all inherited death, but Christ died and resurrected, therefore we inherit resurrection from Him. I Cor.15:20-22.
vi. Christ was the first fruit of resurrection then all other believers who had died becomes partakers of resurrection.
vii. Christ will reign over death by destroying the powers of death. I Cor15: 23 – 26
viii. Glory to Christ, the first fruit of resurrection. I Cor. 15:23.

Ii. Resurrection boosts our hope to see again all our departed loved ones. 1 Cor. 15:18-19.
As we look unto the year spiritual maturity is important, that is why Pastor Adeboye also gave a piece of important advice as touching the open heavens devotional. Some people are so entangled in other activities that they simply skim through the texts every time. Well, it won’t help you that much. According to the Man of God, when a person just reads it, the person “skim the surface”. But when they study, they will “discover the treasure”.
Class Activity 1: Why do you think some people did not believe in the resurrection of the dead according to I Cor. 15:12?
Lesson Outline 2: WHAT HAPPENS AT THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD?
A. AT THE FIRST RESURRECTION
i. Christ resurrected first (first fruit of resurrection). l Cor. 15:20
ii. The saints who had slept before Christ’s resurrection resurrected next. Matt. 27:52-53
AT THE SECOND RESURRECTION MORNING
i. There will be resurrection of all Christians who slept (died) after the first resurrection. This is referred to as the resurrection of life John 5:28-29
ii. Only believers will rise at the second resurrection morning. IThes.4:16b
iii. The wicked dead shall sleep on for another 1000 years.
iv. At the end of the 1000 years, these wicked dead will resurrect to face eternal judgment of condemnation at the Great White Throne. Rev. 20:5; 11, 15.
B. WHAT HAPPENS TO THE BODY AT THE RESURRECTION?
i. The body is raised as a spiritual body- I Cor.15:44
ii. It is not natural body that will resurrect. I Cor. 15:44
iii. It is not the spirit that will resurrect.
iv. Apostle Paul taught that God gives it body as it pleased Him (God). 1I Cor. 15:38, 35-37.
C. HOW DID THE BIBLE DESCRIBE THE BODY?
i. It is not the same body, but a transformed one, just as the plant is different from the seed that was planted. It is a God-given body. I Con 15:37
ii. It will be a body suited in every way to the individual spirit. I Cor. 15:38
iii. It will be an incorruptible body incapable of death or decay. I Cor. 15:42. Those condemned in hell will have this indestructible body because the normal human body will just disintegrate in hell.
iv. It will be a glorious body for Christians and a body with power. I Cor. 15:43
v. Finally, it will be a spiritual body. I Con 15: 44. RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL MANUAL 15TH JULY, 2018
Class Activity 2: Mention one thing each to prove that there is resurrection.
SUMMARY:
There is resurrection of the dead.
CONCLUSION:
Will we recognise one another in Heaven? Of course yes, because we will be known there as we are known on earth-1 Cor. 13: 12. For example, Peter, James and John recognised Moses and Elijah in Maft.17: 4, though they had never met before. On the resurrection morning, the Redeemed of the Lord shall sing a song of victory, I Cor.15: 54-57: “Death is swallowed up in victory. The sting of death is gone. The grave has lost its victory. Victory is ours through Christ”. Will you be there?
