TOPIC: SUSTAINING THE FIRE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT 2 (THROUGH PRAYERS)
TEXT: ACTS 2:1-4, ACT 4:31
Acts 2:1-4
[1]And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
[2]And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
[3]And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
[4]And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 4:31
[31]And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
MEMORY VERSE: Jude 1:20 “But ye beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost”
LESSON AIM: At the end of the lesson, the children will learn how to sustain the fire of the Holy Spirit through prayer.
CENTRAL TRUTH: The Holy Spirit came upon the early church in the place of prayer.
INTRODUCTION: Prayer is the flow of communication between man and God. It is much more than asking and receiving from God. Prayer connects man with God’s presence. Men of God in the past got to the place of power of the Holy Spirit and Sustained the power through prayer James 5:17-17 Elijah regulated times and season through prayer. Daniel 6:10, Daniel was a man of prayer, he became untouchable.

A. LEARNING HOW TO PRAY TO SUSTAIN THE FIRE OF THE HOLY GHOST
1. We cannot pray except the Holy Spirit pray through us. Romans 8:26-27.
2. To arrive at power of the Holy Spirit, we must pray with a clear conscience Proverbs 21:27.
3. We must pray with passion and be fervent. James 5:16-18.
4. We must pray with insight, light or revelation from the word of God. Psalm 119:130, John 1:5.
5. We must learn to pray in the Holy Spirit. Jude 1:20.
B. KINDS OF PRAYER
1. Prayer of faith. Matthew 21:22; Mark 11:24.
2. The prayer of consecration. Luke 22:42.
3. The prayer of commitment. 1 Peter 5:7.
4. The prayer of worship. Luke 24:52-53; Acts 13:1-4.
5. The prayer of agreement. Matthew 18:18-20.
6. Prayer in the spirit. 1 Corinthians 14:14-15; Jude 1:20.
7. United prayer. Acts 4:23-31
8. Prayer of supplication. 1 Timothy 2:1-4.
9. Intercessory prayer. 1 Timothy 2:1-4.

D. WHY DO WE PRAY?

F. WHY PRAYERS ARE HINDERED?
Read Mathew 5:23-24, James 4:13, James 1:5-7, Psalm 66:18, 2 Chron. 7:14
1. Unforgiveness
2. Praying outside the will of God
3. When you ask for selfish purpose
4. When you pray amiss James 4:3
5. When you pray without faith
6. When you are living in sin.
CONCLUSION: Prayer is essential in sustaining the fire of the Holy Spirit.
INVITATION: Isaiah 59:1-2; One thing that can hinder our prayer is sin. If we humble Ourselves and turn from our sins, then God will hear us. 2 Chronicle 7:14.
LIFE APPLICATION: The more we dwell in God’s presence communicating with Him, the more our fire is sustained.
