SUNDAY 26TH OF MARCH, 2023
*LESSON THIRTY (30)*
*TOPIC: THE REVELATIONAL GIFT 2: DISCERNMENT OF SPIRIT*
BIBLE TEXT: 1 Corinthians 12:4-12
[4]Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
[5]And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
[6]And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
[7]But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
[8]For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
[9]To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
[10]To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
[11]But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
[12]For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
MEMORY VERSE: Hebrew 5:14 “But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

STUDY GUIDE
1.) Who gives this gift and why?: The Holy Spirit gives the gift of discernment to enable certain Christians to clearly recognise and distinguish between the influence of God, Satan, the world and the flesh in any given situation. The Church needs those with this gift to warn believers in times of danger or keep them from being led astray by false teachings.
According to John of Damascus, the virtue of discernment “is greater than any other virtue, and is the queen and crown of all the virtues.”
Check the Examples through these Scriptures: 1 John 4:1; Rom. 12:; Heb. 5:14; Phil. 1:9-10; Heb. 4:12; 1 Thess. 5:12.
CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Enumerate five of the examples cited above and expantiate on them.
2.) HOW TO DISCERN SPIRITS
1 John. 4:1.This is a command, not a suggestion or an option. For believers, it is clearly an order and gives no room for any of us to leave to mere chance this crucial dimension of the Spirit world that surrounds us. Developing a closer relationship with God is essential. Being sensitive to the Holy Spirit (1 John 4:2-3) an knowing the Holy Spirit.
THREE REALMS OF DISCERNMENT ARE:
1. The Spirit of God- 2 Kings 6:15-17
2. The Spirit of the enemy – Acts 16:16-19
3. The Human Spirit – Gen. 27:22-23; Jere. 28:1-3, 15-17
3.) HOW DO YOU DEVELOP DISCERNMENT?
1. Prayer and the Word- Ezek. 44: 23; Jer. 33:3
2. Praise – Acts 16:25-26
3. Power of the spoken Word – Num 14:28; Prov. 18:21; Ephesians. 4: 27; Rev. 12:11
LIFE APPLICATION: It is only by getting closer to God that we can know Him and know when people are true to His Word.
