PART TWO: COMMENTARY ON DAY 20 – THE YOUTH

Introduction: The Strategic Importance of This Day

Day 20 of the RCCG fasting and prayers focuses on The Youth. This is not a peripheral concern but a strategic priority. The youth are not just the future of the Church; they are the present. What happens to the youth today determines what the Church becomes tomorrow.

Proverbs 20:29 establishes the foundation: “The glory of young men is their strength.” Strength is not just physical; it includes mental vigour, spiritual passion, emotional resilience, and the capacity to labour, to fight, to build, and to advance. When that strength is properly directed, it becomes glory—a visible display of God’s handiwork.

The Challenges Facing Today’s Youth

The prayer points reveal the multiple dimensions of attack against young people:

The Path of Destruction (Point 3) – The world presents a broad path that seems right but leads to destruction. Young people are targeted through social media, peer pressure, and cultural seduction. The spirit of worldliness seeks to conform them to the patterns of this age.

Battles from Birth (Point 4) – Some battles are not chosen but inherited. Generational curses, family patterns, and spiritual assignments that attached themselves at birth must be broken.

Goliaths Assigned Against Them (Point 6) – Every young person faces giants—fears, insecurities, addictions, limitations. Like David, they need divine enablement to defeat what stands against them.

Weariness and Tiredness (Point 8) – The burden of modern life—academic pressure, economic uncertainty, relationship stress—produces fatigue that drains the strength that should be their glory.

Spirit of Defilement (Point 14) – Purity is under unprecedented attack. The enemy seeks to defile the youth through pornography, sexual immorality, and compromised values.

Household and Territorial Enemies (Point 10) – Opposition comes from familiar sources (family) and systemic sources (territorial spirits). The glory stolen by these enemies must be retrieved.

The Empowerment the Youth Need

The prayers also declare what God wants to do:

Increased Faith (Point 2) – Faith is the victory that overcomes the world. Young people need faith that sees beyond circumstances and trusts God’s promises.

Power from on High (Point 5) – Human strength is insufficient for spiritual battles. The enduement of power—the Holy Spirit’s enablement—is essential.

Divine Strength (Point 9) – When natural strength fails, supernatural strength is released. God specialises in strengthening the weary.

Relevance in Their Generation (Point 12) – Young people need to know that they matter, that they have a purpose, that their lives can impact their world for God.

Obedience and Service (Point 11) – Lamentations 3:27 speaks of bearing the yoke in youth. Early submission to God’s purposes produces lasting fruit.

Garment of Humility (Point 15) – In a world that promotes self-promotion, humility is a rare and powerful garment. God gives grace to the humble.

Satisfaction with Good Things (Point 7) – Psalm 103:5 promises that God satisfies our mouths with good things, renewing our youth like the eagle. This is holistic provision—spiritual, physical, emotional, material.

The Emphasis for Today’s Fasting

As we fast and pray on Day 20, several emphases should guide our intercession:

1. Intergenerational Responsibility

The older generation is not praying about the youth; they are praying for the youth. This reflects the heart of God, who is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of generations. We who have received mercy must pray that the next generation receives even more.

2. Specificity in Prayer

Notice how specific these prayer points are. They address faith, protection, deliverance, power, victory over giants, provision, strength, restoration of glory, obedience, relevance, deliverance from enemies, purity, and humility. Our prayers for the youth should be equally specific, not generalised well-wishes.

3. The Retrieval of Glory

Point 10 is particularly significant: “I retrieve back my glory from the hands of household and territorial enemies.” This acknowledges that glory has been stolen—through family patterns, through cultural influences, through spiritual attacks. But what was stolen can be retrieved. The youth can recover what the enemy has taken.

4. The Davidic Anointing

Point 6 invokes the example of David defeating Goliath. This is crucial because David was young, underestimated, and armed with unconventional weapons. The youth today need to know that their youth is not a disadvantage; it is an opportunity for God to display His power through the unlikely.

5. The Balance of Grace and Responsibility

The prayers ask God to do what only He can do—increase faith, endue with power, release strength. But they also ask for help in obedience and work (point 11). Divine enablement and human responsibility work together.

A Prophetic Declaration for the Youth

I declare over every young person covered by this fast:

Your faith is increasing! You believe God for the impossible!

You are guided and protected! The path of destruction is closed to you; the spirit of worldliness has no hold on you!

Every battle acquired from birth is destroyed! Goliath falls before you!

You are endued with power from on high! The Holy Ghost empowers you for exploits!

You are satisfied with good things! God’s provision meets every need!

Weariness and tiredness are destroyed! Divine strength surges through you!

Your glory is retrieved from every enemy! Household and territorial powers release what they have stolen!

You obey God and work for Him in your youth! Your life counts for eternity!

You are relevant in your generation! Your impact is felt and your voice is heard!

You are delivered from the wicked and the cruel! No enemy can prevail against you!

The spirit of defilement is destroyed! Purity marks your life!

You are clothed with humility! God’s grace rests upon you!

In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!

Closing Prayer for Day 20

Father, we thank You for the youth. Thank You for their strength, their passion, their potential. We lift them before You today, asking that every prayer point in this fast be fully answered in their lives.

Protect them. Empower them. Guide them. Use them. Let them be everything You created them to be.

Let the enemy not steal their youth. Let the world not corrupt their innocence. Let the pressure not crush their spirit.

Raise up a generation that fears You, serves You, and glorifies You. Let the youth of today become the leaders of tomorrow—leaders after Your own heart.

In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
