PART TWO: COMMENTARY ON DAY 18
The Precious Gift of Children
Today, Day 18 of the RCCG fasting and prayers, we turn our intercession toward the most precious earthly gift God has given us—our children. The scriptures establish a clear foundation:
Psalm 127:3-5 declares that children are not accidents or inconveniences but deliberate gifts from the Lord. They are described as a heritage from the Lord, a reward, arrows in the hand of a warrior, and a source of blessing and confidence.
This imagery is powerful. Children are not just passive recipients of our care; they are arrows to be aimed and released into the future. A warrior treasures his arrows, sharpens them, and aims them carefully because they carry his future victories. Likewise, our children carry our legacy, our values, and our faith into generations to come.
Ephesians 1:3 reminds us that every spiritual blessing is available to us in Christ. This includes blessings for our children. They are not excluded from the covenant; they are included in the promise.
James 1:17 establishes God as the source of every good and perfect gift. Children are among those gifts, and we must return to the Giver in prayer on their behalf.
The Responsibility of Parents
Prayer point 5 highlights the need for “divine wisdom to raise their children in your way.” Proverbs 22:6 is the foundation: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Parenting is not merely about providing food, shelter, and education. It is about spiritual formation, character development, and destiny alignment. This requires wisdom that only God can give—wisdom to know when to speak and when to listen, when to correct and when to encourage, when to protect and when to release.
The Battle for Our Children
Several prayer points address the reality that there is a battle for the souls and destinies of our children:
Protection from harm (Point 3) – The enemy seeks to harm our children physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We must cover them with prayer.
Destruction of snares (Point 7) – The enemy sets traps—bad company, unhealthy content, destructive habits, false ideologies. These snares must be destroyed by fire.
Uprooting evil plantations (Point 8) – Every negative seed planted in our children’s lives—fear, rejection, anger, addiction—must be uprooted.
Termination of evil transfers (Point 10) – Generational curses, negative patterns, and sinful tendencies passed down through bloodlines must be broken.
The spirit of laziness (Point 13) – A spirit that hinders productivity, excellence, and fulfillment must be commanded to leave.
The Destiny of Our Children
The prayers also focus on the positive destiny God has for our children:
Mighty vessels (Point 4) – Children are not just to survive but to thrive as instruments in God’s hands.
Climbing to the top (Point 6) – No hindrance should stop their rise to prominence and influence.
A new thing (Point 9) – God is doing something fresh and unprecedented in their lives.
Possessing the gates of their enemies (Point 12) – Dominion, authority, and victory over opposition.
Joy of salvation (Point 14) – Personal relationship with God, not just religious observance.
Abiding in God (Point 15) – Lifetime faithfulness and intimacy with the Lord.
The Generational Dimension
Prayer point 11 is particularly significant: “the power that stopped parents from fulfilling destiny will not stop their children.” This acknowledges that parents may have faced limitations, setbacks, and unfulfilled dreams. But those same limitations will not bind the next generation. Children will go further than their parents. They will achieve what their parents could not. They will break into territories that were previously inaccessible.
PART THREE: EXPANDED PRAYERS FOR OUR CHILDREN
Prayer 1: Thanksgiving for the Gift of Children
Father, I thank You because You are the giver of every good and perfect gift. I thank You for the precious gift of children. They are not accidents or coincidences but deliberate deposits from Your hand. I receive them with gratitude and steward them with reverence. Thank You for the grace to be a parent. Thank You for entrusting these souls to my care. I do not take this responsibility lightly. Help me to fulfill it faithfully. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 2: Thanksgiving for Unearned Grace
Father, I thank You for Your grace that has released to me what money cannot buy. Children are a heritage from You, and I did not earn them; You gave them freely. Thank You for the privilege of parenting, for the laughter of children, for the joy they bring, and for the future they represent. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 3: Protection from Harm
Father, I lift up my children before You. I ask that no forces of darkness harm them. Protect them physically from accidents, diseases, and violence. Protect them emotionally from trauma, rejection, and abuse. Protect them spiritually from deception, seduction, and demonic attack. Let Your angels encamp around them. Let Your hand be upon them wherever they go—to school, to play, to sleep, to work. Be their shield and their defender. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 4: Mighty Vessels
Father, make my children mighty vessels in Your hand. Let them carry Your power, Your presence, and Your purpose. Use them for Your glory in their generation. Let them be instruments of healing, deliverance, and salvation to others. I declare that my children are not ordinary; they are extraordinary because they are Yours. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 5: Wisdom for Parents
Father, give me divine wisdom to raise my children in Your way. I do not know what I do not know. I need Your guidance daily. Show me how to train them, correct them, encourage them, and release them. Give me patience when I am frustrated. Give me insight when I am confused. Give me strength when I am weary. Let me parent not in my own wisdom but in Yours. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 6: Hindrances Removed
Father, I come against every hindrance that would stand in the way of my children climbing to the top. Remove every obstacle—educational, financial, social, spiritual. Let no ceiling hold them down. Let no limitation define them. I declare that my children will rise. They will excel. They will shine. Nothing shall stop their ascent. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 7: Snares Destroyed
Father, destroy by the fire of the Holy Ghost every snare of the enemy set to trap my children. Break every bait of the devil designed to lure them into sin, addiction, or destruction. Let the traps be exposed before they are sprung. Let the snares be broken before they catch. Let my children walk in freedom and safety all their days. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 8: Evil Plantations Uprooted
Father, I command every evil plantation upon the life of my children to be uprooted and destroyed. Every seed of fear, anger, rebellion, lust, or pride that has been planted—let it be uprooted now. Let only what You have planted grow in their lives. Let Your Word take root and bear fruit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 9: A New Thing
Father, arise and do a new thing in the life of my children. Break old patterns. Create new pathways. Do what has never been done before in their generation. Let them experience Your freshness, Your creativity, Your innovation. Let their lives be marked by unprecedented testimonies. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 10: Evil Transfers Terminated
Father, I terminate every evil transfer from parents to children. Every curse, every negative pattern, every sinful tendency passed down through bloodlines—I break it now by the blood of Jesus. What stopped my fathers from fulfilling destiny will not stop my children. What hindered my mothers from reaching their full potential will not hinder my daughters. The chain is broken. The cycle is ended. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 11: Destiny Not Stopped
Father, I decree that the power that stopped parents from fulfilling destiny will not stop my children. Every limitation that bound me is loosed from them. Every door that was closed to me is open to them. They will go where I could not go. They will have what I could not have. They will be what I could not be. The generational curse is replaced with generational blessing. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 12: Possessing the Gates
Father, let my children possess the gates of their enemies. Let them have dominion in every sphere of influence—education, business, government, media, family. Wherever opposition rises against them, let them prevail. I declare that my children are heads and not tails, above and not beneath. They shall lend and not borrow. They shall be victors and not victims. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 13: Spirit of Laziness Depart
Father, I command the spirit of laziness to get out of the life of my children. Every tendency toward procrastination, slothfulness, and idleness—I break it now. Give them a spirit of diligence, excellence, and discipline. Let them work with their hands what is good. Let them be productive and fruitful in all they do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 14: Joy of Salvation
Father, let the joy of salvation enter into the lives of my children. Not just religion, but relationship. Not just church attendance, but heart transformation. Draw them to Yourself early. Let them know You personally. Let them serve You passionately. Let them love You wholeheartedly. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer 15: Abiding in God
Father, give my children the grace to abide in You all the days of their lives. Let them never depart from the faith. Let them never wander from Your presence. Let them finish well and finish strong. I commit them into Your hands, trusting that You who began a good work in them will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
