28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Selfishness is a sign of not being broken. It is the hallmark of sins that will be committed during the last days, is recorded in the memory verse. Selfishness is all about falling in love with oneself to the point where everyone and everything is second place. The desires of selfish people revolve around the mundane things of the world. They can never be heavenly-minded.
The height of selfishness is when you love yourself to the point of idolizing yourself. This is idolatry. It is selfishness that would make you think that you are at a loss if you give your tithe, even after God has commanded it.
God says you should love Him with all you have, but selfishness says, No, how can I love you when I have not loved myself enough?’ Lovers of self always run into a problem with God. My beloved child, know that to obey divine commands and instructions, you will be required to displease yourself.
KEY POINT:
Let your love for God control all your actions.
HYMN 21 – I Want To Be Like Jesus
- I want to be like Jesus,
So lowly and so meek;
For no one mark’d an angry word,
That ever heard Him speak, - I want to be like Jesus,
So frequently in prayer;
Alone upon the mountain top,
He met his Father there. - I want to be like Jesus,
I never, never find
That He, though persecuted was
To anyone unkind. - I want to be like Jesus,
Engaged in doing good;
So that of me it may be said
“He hath done what he could.” - I want to be like Jesus,
Who sweetly said to all,
“Let little children come to Me;”
I would obey the call. - But oh I’m not like Jesus,
As anyone may see;
O gentle Saviour, send Thy grace,
And make me like to Thee
