29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbor?
30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Joshua 18-20
MESSAGE
This parable tells the story of a man who was robbed of everything he had while traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho. He was stripped of all his belongings and was seriously beaten. Some moments later, a priest and then a Levite passed by but showed no love or compassion for the man by failing to help him and passing on the other side of the road to avoid getting involved. If there was anyone who should have known God’s law of love, it would have been the priest and Levite. By nature of their position, they were to be people of compassion, desiring to serve God and help others. Unfortunately, to them, “love” was not a word that required action – it was just a word.
Do you know that you are a priest unto God? The Bible says in 1 Peter 2:9a that:
“Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood.”; therefore, servitude and compassion must be your virtue. If someone is hungry and needy around you, you are to love him or her by your actions.

HYMN 21 – I Want To Be Like Jesus
- I want to be like Jesus,
So lowly and so meek;
For no one mark’d an angry word,
That ever heard Him speak, - I want to be like Jesus,
So frequently in prayer;
Alone upon the mountain top,
He met his Father there. - I want to be like Jesus,
I never, never find
That He, though persecuted was
To anyone unkind. - I want to be like Jesus,
Engaged in doing good;
So that of me it may be said
“He hath done what he could.” - I want to be like Jesus,
Who sweetly said to all,
“Let little children come to Me;”
I would obey the call. - But oh I’m not like Jesus,
As anyone may see;
O gentle Saviour, send Thy grace,
And make me like to Thee
