MEMORISE
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Mark 11:23

READ: Mark 5:35-43 (KJV)

35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

MESSAGE

Many years ago, I was visiting one of our parishes abroad, and when I landed at the airport, one of the pastors who usually came to welcome me anytime I visited the country was not there. When I asked about him, I was told that he was dying in a hospital. I asked if we could stop at the hospital on our way from the airport, and I was taken there immediately.

In that hospital, they had a special room where people with ‘hopeless’ cases were kept. Once a patient was moved to that room, it meant that the fellow would likely not survive whatever ailment he or she had, and this was where the pastor was kept. He had cancer, and the doctors’ reports were not good at all. I prayed for him and commanded the spirit of death to take its hands off him. I didn’t pray for the other patients in the room because, in that country, you can be arrested for praying for a sick person when the fellow has not given his or her consent. After praying for the pastor, I left the hospital immediately.

About three days later, he was completely healed and was discharged. I learnt later that on the day he was discharged, every other person in the room was discharged as well.

Imagine what could have happened if I had heard the sad report concerning him and just sympathised with him instead of declaring the word of God over him. Child of God, you might not know the great miracles you are hindering if you refuse to speak God’s word to unfavourable situations.

You must realise that you are not ordinary and your words carry power because you are a child of God. When you encounter a mountain in the way of your progress, speak to it in the name of Jesus, and it will obey you (Mark 11:23).

Revelation 1:6 says that you are a king, and Ecclesiastes 8:4 says that where the word of a king is, there is power. This means that whenever you speak, power shows up. Doubt is one of the major things that can stop power from showing up when you speak.

Beloved, don’t keep quiet in the face of negative situations; speak God’s word over them in faith, and they will turn around completely for good, in Jesus’ name.

KEY POINT
When children of God speak God’s word in faith, God’s power shows up on the scene.

HYMN 49: STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD

1. Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring;
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Chorus:
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

2. Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

3. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.

4. Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Samuel 1-3

COMMENTARY – WORD OF POWER: YOUR WORDS CARRY WEIGHT

Introduction: The Power of Spoken Words

As we step into April 2026, the first day of the month brings a powerful reminder from the Word of God: your words carry power. In this continuation of the series “Word of Power,” Pastor E.A. Adeboye draws from the account of Jairus’ daughter and from personal testimony to illustrate the transformative authority that believers possess when they speak God’s word in faith.

The Testimony: When Power Showed Up

Daddy G.O. shares a remarkable testimony of a pastoral visit to a hospital abroad. A pastor was dying of cancer in a “hopeless cases” room—the place where patients were sent when doctors had given up. But the man of God did not sympathize; he declared. He commanded the spirit of death to release its hold. Three days later, the pastor was completely healed. Even more striking: every other patient in that room was discharged as well.

This testimony reveals several profound truths:

Sympathy Has Its Limits – While compassion is important, sympathy without declaration leaves situations unchanged. The man of God did not merely feel sorry; he spoke.

One Declaration Can Affect Many – When the pastor was healed, the entire room was emptied. Your testimony may be the key that unlocks deliverance for others.

Power Does Not Require Permission – Though he could not pray for the other patients individually, the power released affected them anyway. God is not bound by human restrictions.

The Scriptural Foundation: Mark 5:35-43

Jairus received devastating news: “Thy daughter is dead.” Human reason said it was over. But Jesus said, “Be not afraid, only believe.” When Jesus arrived at the house, mourners were wailing. But He spoke a different report: “The damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.”

They laughed at Him. They thought they knew better. But Jesus put them all out, took the girl by the hand, and spoke: “Talitha cumi” – “Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.” And she arose.

What can we learn from this?

The Word overrides the report – The doctors’ report, the mourners’ wailing, and even the evidence of the senses did not change what Jesus spoke.

Unbelief must be removed – Jesus put out those who laughed. Doubt cannot remain in the presence of faith.

The power is in the speaking – Jesus did not simply hope; He spoke. And what He spoke came to pass.

Your Identity as a King

Revelation 1:6 declares that Jesus has made us kings and priests unto God. Ecclesiastes 8:4 reminds us that “where the word of a king is, there is power.” As a child of God, you are not ordinary. Your words are not mere sounds; they are carriers of authority.

What does this mean for you?

You have the right to speak – You are not a powerless victim of circumstances.

Your words carry weight – When you speak God’s word, power is released.

Doubt is the enemy – The only thing that can hinder the power is doubt in your heart.

The Call to Speak

Beloved, do not keep silent in the face of negative situations. You may be the only one standing in the gap. Your word of faith could be the turning point for yourself, your family, or even a room full of strangers.

Speak to:

The sickness in your body
The financial mountain before you
The broken relationship
The stalled destiny
The hopeless situation

Speak God’s word over it. Speak in faith. And watch as power shows up.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

What negative situation have I been silent about that I need to speak God’s word over?

Do I truly believe that my words carry power as a child of God?

Where has doubt hindered the power of my declarations?

PRAYER FOR THE DAY

Father, I thank You for the power of Your word. I thank You that as Your child, my words carry authority. Forgive me for the times I have kept silent when I should have spoken.

Lord, give me boldness to speak Your word over every negative situation in my life. Remove every doubt from my heart. Let Your power show up when I speak in faith.

I declare that no mountain will stand before me. I declare that sickness, poverty, and failure have no hold on my life. I speak life, healing, and breakthrough over my situation, in Jesus’ name.

Amen.
