BIBLE PASSAGE: Matthew 8:5-13 KJV (RCCG Sunday School STUDENT Manual 29 December 2019)
16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
LESSON INTRODUCTION: It is not the plan of God for any of His children to be sick. In fact, God’s intentions are that they never have to be sick, tired or weary (3 John 2). His plan is to constantly renew their strength as they spend time with Him (Isaiah 40:28-31). He wants us to have all round wholeness (physical, emotional, spiritual, etc) so that it will be well with us (Isa. 3:10). Peradventure we fall sick, God has made provision for our healing (Ps.107:20). However, Divine healing is subject to a condition of absolute obedience to God’s command.
OUTLINES
- HEALING IS CHILDREN’S BREAD
- CONDITIONS FOR DIVINE HEALING
HEALING IS CHILDREN’S BREAD
Without any doubt, the wages of sin is death and one prominent agent/vehicle of death is sickness/disease. One of the reasons sin may hinder healing is that it makes it impossible for God to hear the prayer of the sinful sick who calls for healing without repenting first (Isa. 59:1-2). From the story of the woman of Tyre and Sidon, it is clear that healing is children’s bread (Matt. 15:21-26). A child of God is clearly someone who has been cleansed from sin (John 1:11-12; 1 John 3:9). He/she must be dead to sin and alive to the Holy Spirit who then sees to it that His temple (1 Cor. 6:19) remains vitally healthy. Healing is God’s children because they are cleansed from their sins and the Holy Spirit dwells in them (Rom. 8:11).
CONDITIONS FOR DIVINE HEALING
God’s word is forever settled (Ps. 119:89). His desire is that we repent and be healed. (Ezekiel. 18:32; 33:11). Through His word, God does not only heal and also delivers (Ps. 107:20). Therefore, it does not matter what your sickness or disease may be, if you listen to Him, it would go and you would be healed (Prov. 4:20-22). There are certain things that you must do to receive your healing through the word. The first is that you must not negate what He has said but believe His word (Prov. 18:7; 2 Kings 4:21-26; 36-37). The second thing you must do is to repent genuinely from your sins and be ready to live in absolute obedience to God’s command (Ps. 119:11). Thirdly, cry to God for help (Ps. 107:17-20). The fourth is to be ready for your healing through a strong faith (Mark 5:25-29). Divine healing can be instant (Ps. 147:15; Matt. 8:8, 13) or progressive (Luke 17:13-14; 2 Kings 5:10). It is equally important that children of God imbibe the culture of healthy living in order to escape being afflicted with sickness and diseases.
CONCLUSION: The Lord Jesus never spoke to sickness and diseases but to the people who needed healings. Therefore, if anyone will just listen to Him and obey His instructions, such a fellow can receive His healing too. However, to receive your healing, you must agree with Him and do what is right.

RCCG Sunday School 29 December 2019 HYMN
- O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day, Thy friendship suits me well,
Both young and old will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?
