Topic: Submit Fully To Him
[DCLM Daily Manna 9 September 2018 Daily Devotional]
Text: Numbers 16:12-32 (KJV)
Key Verse: “And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?“ (Numbers 16:22).
MESSAGE:
The responsibility of spiritual leadership often goes hand-in- hand with some challenges that prove overwhelming and at times, unbearable. These may include fiery opposition from certain influential members of the assembly one leads.
Moses, the man of God, was faced with opposition to his spiritual authority over the children of Israel through the action of Dathan and Abiram who showed disregard to his call: “And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up” (Numbers 16:12). This was a follow-up to an earlier gang up, which included Korah and two hundred and fifty (250) princes, “famous in the congregation, men of renown” (Numbers 16:1,2). Dathan and Abiram accused Moses of purposeless leadership with empty promises of blessing. What complicated the matter was the fact that the rebels were “sons of Levi”, from a tribe called of the Lord to serve God.
Satan can use anybody for his evil purpose. God’s judgment was about to fall upon the whole congregation because of the sin of a few. This was reduced through the intercession of Moses and Aaron. Despite this, the Lord still punished them with a destruction that had never been heard of (Numbers 16:30-32). God is to be feared and every act of sin that is not repented of will be judged. Pride and vainglory destroyed Dathan and his co-travellers. Greed ended the life and ministry of Judas. Determine fully today to set your affections on Christ and turn away from every appearance of evil.
Thought For The Day: God’s judgment has no respect for class or persons.
