Topic: Still Relevant Today
[DCLM Daily Manna 9 June 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]
Text: Deuteronomy 14:22-29 (KJV)
Key Verse: “Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year” (Deuteronomy 14:22).
MESSAGE:
There has been an uproar over the relevance of tithing in our age. Many have argued that tithes do not find a place in the New Testament. Some see it as a ploy by unscrupulous ministers to enrich themselves and live high profile lives while their poor members remain impoverished. While it is true that the practice of tithing has been grossly abused in many circles, this does not make this aspect of the word of God unnecessary today. True believers keep to the whole word of god and do not care what people say or do.
In the passage today, the Lord instructed the children of Israel on the issue of tithing. It was a clear command that was not to be subjected to any form of debate or rationalization. The practice was to be carried out regularly and faithfully. Apart from it being an act to display one’s gratitude to God for provisions, it was also to ensure that the Levites and priests who had no physical inheritance and who are wholly dedicated to the service of God without any anxiety or distractions. The practice was also to ensure that the poor among them – the widows, orphans and strangers – were equally provided for.
The conditions for which God gave this command to the nation of Israel are still the same today. There are men and women whom God has called to His service full-time like the Levites and priests of old. They are supposed to do no other work. There is the need that they are provided for. It is from the provisions of the tithes that this can be.

True children of God do not question or debate the clear instructions of God. They simply obey. It is this simple obedience that attracts the blessings of God. A tithe is the ten percent of our income. We must be regular and consistent in our giving as well. As long as God keeps blessing and providing for us, we must keep giving back to Him and His work.
Thought For The Day: God’s word on tithing is sacrosanct!
