Topic: Cry Of The Righteous
[DCLM Daily Manna 8 March 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]
Text: Psalm 17:1-15 (KJV)
Key Verse: “Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them” (Psalm 17:7).
MESSAGE:
The missionary to China, Jonathan Goforth (1859-1936), met a very hostile community which attempted, on several occasions, to destroy him and his family. But each time they came, they met so many armed soldiers guarding the compound with some on the rooftop. It was not until these villagers started getting converted and demanding to know the whereabouts of the “soldiers” that the man of God realised that God did send angels as armed soldiers to guide his family in times of danger. David’s petition to God was as a result of the wicked that oppressed him and the deadly enemies who compassed him about (verse 9). Having established that God knew his heart to be right and that he had obeyed the word of God and walked in His way, he proceeded to ask Him for protection from the hand of the wicked. He pleaded that God should keep him as the apple of His eye while asking for the defeat and destruction of those enemies.
Righteousness is a great asset that gives the true believer boldness in prayer. Abraham’s righteousness and prayer made him to secure the lives of Lot and his family from the destruction of Sodom. Moses’ prayer averted the annihilation of Israel when God wanted to wipe them out of their idolatry. Joshua, through his right standing with God, was able to stop the sun and moon for one whole day.
Spending days and weeks on “mountains” in endless prayers will get very little or no results without righteousness. However, through faith in the finished work of Christ at Calvary, a sinner can become the righteousness of God in Christ, because righteousness is imputed when Christ is received as Lord and Saviour. The believer’s righteous life is the proof that he has become a “new creature” in Christ. God will always answer the cries of the righteous and deliver him out of his afflictions.
Thought For The Day: Righteousness is the evidence of genuine salvation.
