Topic: Don’t Turn God’s Blessing To A Curse!
[DCLM Daily Manna 8 June 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]
Text: Ezekiel 16:15-34 (KJV)
Key Verse: “Thou hast also taken thy fair jewels of my old and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest to thyself images of men, and didst commit whoredom with them” (Ezekiel 16:17).
MESSAGE:
Man is the most endowed of all the creations of God. But alas, it is sad to note that instead of using God’s enormous resources at his disposal for his good and His glory, man has turned around to abuse God’s blessings; thus making of them a curse unto him – the reason for the pains and sorrows in many lives.
When Israel had become very influential, she began to use the beauty and blessings God had given to her as a nation to enter into idolatrous relationship with the pagan nations around her. The very silver and gold that was given to her by god was used to make idols she created from her imagination. She turned the blessings God had given to her to a curse. Pride filled her heart and she became forgetful of God and the covenant promise. Consequently, she began to lose all that she had gradually, until her beauty was turned to ashes; her wealth faded into deep poverty and her liberty and nationhood became lost in captivity.
Many lose sight of the fact that all they possess have been given to them by God. They abuse and misuse His gifts in their lives. Their beauty, talents, riches and wealth have been turned to idols which they worship. They become proud, full of themselves and have no thought about God. We must understand that whatever we have – be it beauty, skills, talents, riches, etc., all have been given to us by God. When we misuse these gifts, we are bound to suffer the consequences. Does this not explain why man still feels empty and unsatisfied in life in spite of all the wealth, power and fame he has? What should have been blessings to us has turned around to become a bitter curse!
If we are going to enjoy the gifts God has given us, then we must use them the way He intends – for His glory and the benefits of others; and we will see that they will continue to abound.
