Topic: When Leaders Go Wrong
[DCLM Daily Manna 7 June 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]
Text: Lamentations 4:13-22 (KJV)
Key Verse: “And if the whole congregation of Israel sin through ignorance, and the thing be hid from the eyes of the assembly, and they have done somewhat against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which should not be done, and are guilty” (Lamentations 4:13).
MESSAGE:
The sad thing about the errors in leadership is the spiral effects such have on the group of people he is leading. It is not only the leader that suffers the consequences of his sins. Everyone down the line of his leadership gets to feel the impact of such misdeed. This is why leadership is such a huge responsibility that everyone must handle with utmost care. The destiny of the people rests squarely on the shoulders of the leaders.
Prophet Jeremiah laments over the punishment that would come upon the nation because of the erring leadership of the priests and prophets. Instead of keeping true to their calling of upholding moral rectitude of the preaching and teaching of the sound word of God, they became corrupted and slipped into a life of sin with the rest of the people. For this reason, both they and the possible would not escape the judgment of God.
Leadership responsibility calls for firmness of purpose. The leader has the responsibility to guide his personal life as well as those of the people he has been called to lead. He must make sure that his lifestyle and examples will not send the wrong signals. He must understand what he has been called upon to do and must adhere to it, not allowing pressure of any kind to allow him derail. Most often, leaders fail because they yield to the pressures of the people they lead.

Everything rises and falls on leadership. When things go wrong, it is the leaders that take the blame. It is not in everything and in every case that the voice of the people reflects the voice of God. If the so-called popular demands of your family members, congregation or subordinates run contrary to the firm demand of God’s standard, you must take your stand on God’s word.
