Topic: The Great Day of Atonement
[DCLM Daily Manna 3 May 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]
Text: Leviticus 16:20-34 (KJV)
Key Verse: “For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD” (Leviticus 16:30).
MESSAGE:
The Old Testament generation hardly knew that what God revealed to them through His prophets foreshadowed events in a distant future. For instance, they were unaware that the process of atonement for their sins through the priest was a pointer to the ultimate cleansing through the blood of Jesus Christ. Robert Lowry, one of the renowned hymn writers, wrote “What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus; What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus”.
The atonement feast which symbolises the cross is wholly ethical in its implications. It was kept by the Jewish people as a solemn Sabbath on the day of atonement. On this occasion, only the high priest was permitted to enter into the holy of holies. Having bathed and dressed himself entirely in the white linen garment, he brought forward a young bullock and two young goats for a sin offering. He presented the two goats before the Lord at the door of the tabernacle and cast lots upon them before the sacrifice was made. Mercy and peace were granted the penitent.

Jesus is the Propitiation for the sin of the whole world. As He is the High Priest, so He is the Sacrifice with which atonement is made to pave the way for our reconciliation with God. People who wish to profit from the redemption that is in Christ must humble themselves, confess their sins, abstain from every appearance of evil and believe on Him who died for our sins.
If your sin is as red as crimson, the blood of Jesus can wash you whiter than snow. As you apply it with faith, He is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. Appropriate this great benefit today and it shall be well with you in time and eternity.
