MESSAGE:

Hard rock, mountains and cliffs are two of the common physical features of Palestine. Sound experts tell us that these objects are among some of the most effective natural producers of sound echoes. If tested at a quiet moment, a whisper within appropriate distance of a flat, hard wall of a cliff may be heard nearly 40 metres away. It is as though, the speaker was talking from just over your shoulder. A shout near a range of such mountains produces a repeating echo that can sometimes be heard more than 7 times before it becomes inaudible.

The Lord had summoned Israel to appear before some of these mountains and tell the reason for their unfaithfulness to a God who had done so much in revealing His goodness and mercy to them. God intends to judge the sins and ingratitude of Israel with the surrounding mountains and hills as witnesses.

The mountains and hills have been of old and have kept their own estates not moving or removing from the place where God had planted them. They have sent out echoes of sound as they received them and have been witnesses of the nation’s idolatries and wickedness. God’s displeasure against Israel is justified in view of the faithfulness of the mountains and hills in remaining in their God-given places. There is no want of evidence or witness which God might call up against man’s sin and unfaithfulness to Him, at anytime. Man cannot cover up his sin well enough out of sight to escape the notice of either the sun, moon, stars, mountains, hills etc. The secret sins of all men will be judged openly by the Lord on judgment day.

If man refuses to see God’s kindness in every situation of his life; if he begins to take God’s goodness for granted and goes away from His will and commandment, God can use even those things that are meant for man’s blessing and satisfaction as rods of punishment and witnesses against him.

Confession, repentance and absolute faith in Christ are necessary for a guilt-free conscience. By so doing, you can become God’s witness.

Thought For The Day: Proclaim His word and judgment to all.
