Topic: Completely Trusting In God
[DCLM Daily Manna 23 July 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]
Text: Hebrews 10:19-28 (KJV)
19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
Key Verse: “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised)” (Hebrews 10:22,23).
MESSAGE:
Dr Peter Marshall (1902-1949), Chaplain of the United States Senate prayed this prayer at the opening of the Senate. “Help us to do our very best this day and be content with today’s troubles, so that we shall not borrow the troubles of tomorrow. Save us from the sin of worrying lest stomach ulcer be the badge of our lack of faith.”
Everywhere today, there are signs of decay of faith. Many people do not actively serve God anymore. If they do, it is for the sake of music, healing, deliverance, breakthrough or non-religious motive.
Our text today encourages believers to be bold to live by the new and living way obtained for us by the blood of Jesus. We are urged to come closer to God in full assurance of faith with a pure heart. We are also to encourage fellow believers to good works; be regular in church and prepare for the Lord’s coming.
Living by faith goes beyond requests for breakthrough, healing and deliverance. It is putting all of one’s eggs in God’s basket. Faith releases the miraculous; it is the way to divine influence; and the anchor of the soul. For the believer to be nearer to God, he must possess unwavering faith, consecration and commitment in God’s service and regular attendance at worship services.
The first expression of our faith is to surrender our lives to Christ by repenting of our sin. Faith will enable us develop a better relationship with Christ, increase our spiritual value and make us have deeper knowledge of God. Through the prayer of faith, we obtain mercy, grace, help and cleansing for service. Besides, without faith, we cannot please God. Believers are encouraged to come closer in faith to receive all that Calvary has promised for life and ministry.
Thought For The Day: Faith takes us closer to fulfilment of God’s plan in our lives.
