Topic: The Ultimate Loyalty
[DCLM Daily Manna 21st July 2018 Daily Devotional]
Text: 1 Samuel 20:35-42 (KJV)
Key Verse: “And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city” (1 Samuel 20:42).
MESSAGE:
Jonathan offers a perfect example of being pulled in two opposite directions. His father sought to kill David, his loyal friend, whom God had anointed to replace Saul, his father. So, between a murderous father and an anointed servant of God, he manifested rare courage to protect God’s property rather than fall for satanic enticement.
Jonathan dealt with the conflict between loyalty to his father and love for his friend because he had a proper understanding of Kingdom principles that one should fear God and His laws instead of fearing man and his laws. God’s laws teach abiding truth. That truth would enable one deal effectively with complex situations. Being loyal to God means shunning the world and its carnal commitment to the rewards of sin.
The loyalty of Christians today is undergoing severe tests. We can only overcome if we adopt Jonathan’s principle of sticking to the truths of Christ’s teaching. The world throws up different doctrines and sinful enticements aimed at making us to give up our faith in Jesus as the Saviour of the world. They want us to abandon our holy watch for the Second Coming of our Lord to take us home.
If Christians will be loyal to the Lord and His promises as Jonathan did, they will also overcome end-time temptations and remain loyal to Christ to the end.
Thought For The Day: Loyalty to God guarantees victory over sin and temptation.
