TOPIC: ACCESS TO ETERNAL LIFE
[DCLM DAILY MANNA 18 SEPTEMBER 2018 DAILY DEVOTIONAL]
Text: Matthew 19:13-22 (KJV)
Key Verse: “Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me” (Matthew 19:21).
MESSAGE:
A story was told of a fourteen-year old Hindu boy who greatly despised Christianity. At a point in his life, he decided to go in search for God the Father of Jesus Christ. He was so desperate that he felt he could no longer live in this world without knowing who God was. Jesus then revealed Himself unto him. The boy said, “I thought I would see Ramah or Krishna, but I saw Jesus”. Having found the true God, he gave up the comfort of his father’s house due to intense persecution, to keep his faith. Eternal life is for those who are ready to give up the mundane things of this world.
Jesus revealed Himself to the boy in order for Him to distinguish the path between eternal life and eternal doom. The young man in the text claimed to have been keeping the six commandments Jesus listed from his youth, which were all referring to outward relationships to others. His inner depravity was however exposed when Jesus told him: “…go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven”. When we embrace Christ, we are not only set free from outward sin, but we equally experience heart transformation that grants us a right attitude towards God and men.
To have eternal life requires one to have a personal and abiding relationship with God. He will also possess a renewed mind that prevents him from using his possessions selfishly. Nothing should be too big or special to forego if we are to follow Him who offers to us a free passage to eternal life.
Thought For The Day: A Christian life which costs nothing is worth nothing.
