Text: Exodus 9:1-12 (KJV)
Key Verse: “And the LORD shall sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all that is the children’s of Israel” (Exodus 9:4).
MESSAGE:
Well known American pastor and Bible teacher, Warren Wiersbe said: “The safest place in all the world is in the will of God, and the safest protection in all the world is the name of God”.
Pharaoh’s heart was hardened after he seemed to relent under the former plagues. But God, determined to set His chosen nation free, warned him of other impending ones, the fifth and sixth plagues. The fifth plague for the first time targeted personal property (livestock). God would stop at nothing in His determination to accomplish His divine purpose for His own.
Following this devastation plague, Pharaoh sent out spies who confirmed that the children of Israel lost not so much as one of their cattle in fulfilment of God’s earlier pronouncement to Moses. God had bound Himself by the most solemn oath to be a God to His people and deliver them. It was in pursuance of this pledge that He was their pavilion and canopy in this awful hour. Israel stood there and was safe, not only from the hail but also from the destroying sword. He was their hiding place from the storms of judgment and condemnation.
God sets His children apart in the midst of trouble and shows Himself strong on their behalf to show forth His glory. When we trust in Christ, He becomes our Refuge. This should be a great comfort for us today. While it is true that some things happen to both believers and unbelievers alike, such as aging, death and sorrow at the loss of a loved one, sincere followers of the Lord have a Rock to stand on for comfort which others do not enjoy.
The Lord knows how to deliver His own. “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe” (Proverb 18:10). The souls that shelter under God’s wing, do not panic in times of pestilence and plagues.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: We are secured and safe under divine covering.
