Text: 2 Chronicles 14:1-15 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment” – (2 Chronicles 14:4).

MESSAGE:

As goes the saying “The heart of the matter is a matter of the heart”, the passage today focuses on the state of Israel’s heart in relation to God under King Asa. It was a dark era of lawlessness when Israel, for a long time, had been destitute of the true God, His laws and teaching. They engaged themselves in idol worship. The heart of the nation was estranged from the living God of Israel. However, Asa was able to mobilise them to seek Him.

Similarly, the hearts of many people today have departed from God. Yet, they engage in one form of worship or the other. Many sincere worshippers have become victims of circumstances, as they have been deceived by false prophets and teachers.

However, seeking the Lord transcends this routine observance of mere rituals. It entails a deliberate and conscientious effort at dumping all idolatrous engagements for knowing and doing wholeheartedly the perfect will of God at all times. It involves the seeker’s unalloyed and consistent holy living in all things. Also important is having the ultimate goal of achieving and sustaining a consistent fellowship with Him both now and in eternity. Anything short of these cascade all religious activities into self-deceit and spell eternal damnation.

This fundamental need to avoid false worship and self-deceit inevitably demands one’s constant spiritual self-examination and watchfulness. Weigh the teachings, doctrines and practices of the congregation and leadership at your worship center on the balance of God’s word. If your discovery is adverse to seeking the Lord in spirit and in truth, prayerfully seek Him in a true Bible-believing church where the Holy Spirit is firmly at the helm of affairs.

Thought For The Day: Seek God, not gods.
