Topic: The Sure Testimony
[DCLM Daily Manna 12 September 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]
Text: John 3:29-36 (KJV)
29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.
32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.
33 He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.
34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
Key Verse: “He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true” (John 3:33).
MESSAGE:
Salvation and eternal life hang on one’s attitude and response to the Personality of Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God. He is the Saviour and the only Way to God.
John, in our passage testified to the ageless truth that Jesus is the Son of God who has been with the Father above. God sent Him to speak His word and for that purpose, He gave Him His Spirit without measure. God also gave Him all things. John pointed to Jesus as the authentic Bridegroom of the Church, His bride. He came from above and is above all. John’s sure testimony is to one intent; that the eternal truth and everlasting life is only through believing the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
To be saved, one has to know the Son of God, believe in Him, obey His words, serve and worship Him. Jesus is not just one of the ways but the only way to God and eternal life. It should be emphasised as John has reiterated that all things have been given into the hands of Jesus by God. Believing Him, serving Him and following Him to the end is the only way of escaping eternal condemnation. Jesus’ messages are not only true but heavenly because God sent Him to deliver His final revelation and judgment.
To do ourselves a world of good in this life and eternity, we need to get acquainted with Jesus through studying the Bible. We need to obey His words without reservation and like John the Baptist, we should tell others about Jesus Christ. Evangelism is not optional to any believer. It is not limited to church leaders and workers; it is every believer’s ministry.
Thought For The Day: Know Jesus to lay hold on Eternal life.
