[DCLM Daily Manna 12 June 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]
Text: Ezekiel 17:1-10 (KJV)
Key Verse: “And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel” (Ezekiel 17:1,2).
MESSAGE:
Unknown to many, God’s words are a reflection of His nature. He is everything man is not when it comes to constancy and dependability.
In the text, God sent Ezekiel to put a riddle to Israel after she had despised the oath in breaking His covenant in the previous chapter (Ezekiel 16:59). The riddle was about two eagles and a vine. The first eagle which had great wings, longwinged, full of fathers, with divers colours came to Lebanon and took the highest branch of the cedar. It cropped off the top of his young twigs, took seed of the land and carried it to a land of traffick. He planted the seed in a fruitful land by great waters, by a willow tree. This seed grew and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, so that the vine was under him. The vine brought forth branches and shot forth sprigs.
There was also the second eagle with great wings and many feathers but the vine did not bend her roots toward him nor shoot her branches toward him so that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation. The vine was planted in a good soil by great waters that it might bring forth branches and bear fruits that it might be a goodly vine. The Lord then asked Israel if the vine, though planted, shall grow with the impending danger of its root not being well grounded and the force of the east wind. This parable illustrated the treachery of Israel in breaking the covenant with the king of Babylon and seeking the assistance of Egypt to break off the yoke of the king of Babylon against the instruction of the Lord.
Having so many witnesses testifying to the faithfulness of God to His promises should embolden us to hold tenaciously to whatever He has said concerning us.
Thought For The Day: God cannot lie; He is faithful to His words.
