Text: Genesis 39:7-23 (KJV)

Key Verse: “There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9).

MESSAGE:

The argument that building a nation begins from the home front is provided by the inspiring story of Joseph, the despised dreamer. After surviving his stay in a dark pit into which he was thrown by his resentful brothers, the teenager was sold to itinerant merchants who finally took him to Egypt where he became a servant in the home of a top officer of the king. This was where he proved the point that your strength (or weakness) derives from what the home offers you or neglects to give you.

When the wife of Potiphar sought to lure Joseph into immorality, the young Hebrew declined without hesitation. Although he had the opportunity to enjoy a moment of fleshly desire in the closet with her, He remembered that God is omnipresence, He sees even in the secret. Therefore, he fled so as to retain the godly virtues he was taught back home. Joseph desired a perfect walk with God. And on that ground, he rested his case.

Perhaps, His God-loving parents must have told him a lot about those who acted unrighteously before God and were punished accordingly. David acted foolishly and God dealt with him. The sinful nations of Sodom and Gomorrah also attracted God’s wrath because of sin. Sin makes a person an enemy of God; however, you become His friend and child when you live upright.

Joseph’s uprightness earned him God’s favour. As a result, he imparted same to his family and the kingdom of Egypt as well as the vassal nations far and near. A home run on the pure teachings of holiness and righteousness produces children with the fear of God. Since society rests on the home or family, we must seek to produce more godly homes where more Josephs must be bred.

Thought For The Day: Breed godly children to bring forth godly communities.
