SUB-THEME: CALL TO HOLINESS.
TOPIC: SHUN WORLDLINESS.
TEXT: 1 JOHN 2:15-17.
15 Stop loving the world and the things that are in the world. If anyone persists in loving the world, the Father’s love is not in him. Rom 12:2 Gal 1:10 Jas 4:4
16 For everything that is in the world—the desire for fleshly gratification, the desire for possessions, and worldly arrogance—is not from the Father but is from the world. [Tit 2:12]
17 And the world and its desires are fading away, but the person who does God’s will remains forever. Psa 90:10 Isa 40:6 1Co 7:31 Jas 1:10 Jas 4:14 1Pe 1:24 [Jas 1:11].
TOPIC: SHUN WORLDLINESS.
MESSAGE:
Worldliness is a show of concern for material values rather than spiritual experience. Although the world is the sphere where we live, witness, serve God and accomplish our obligations; however the believer is cautioned not to love it. We must avoid the cravings of sinfulness: the lust of eyes – the excessive desire for material things, the lust of the flesh – the desire for sexual immorality and others, and the pride of life – the inordinate ambition for recognition and position. These things are temporal and destructive, so you cannot be worldly and holy at the same time. Sure, the one who loves the world does not have the love of the Father.
Are you worldly?
Rid yourself of it by yielding to the Holy Spirit. This will promote holy living.
REFLECTION:
You are called to influence the world, not to conform to it.
PRAYER:
Lord, protect us from the evil of worldliness . Amen.
MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH: 1 PETER 1:15.
“But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do”.
