BASIC SCRIPTURES: NEHEMIAH 9:15 14 December 2023
BASIC SCRIPTURES: NEHEMIAH 9:15;
Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;
2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:
3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
4 For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.
5 I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else.
7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.
8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the Lord have created it.

6 The Lord our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:
7 Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.
8 Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.
9 And I spake unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:
10 The Lord your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.

Nehemiah 9:15 (NIV): “You gave them bread from heaven for their hunger and brought water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and you told them to go in to possess the land that you had sworn to give them.”
This verse from Nehemiah reflects on God’s provision for the Israelites during their journey in the wilderness. It acknowledges how God supplied their needs by providing bread (manna) from heaven to satisfy their hunger and water from a rock to quench their thirst. Additionally, it points out God’s promise to give them the land He had sworn to provide, referencing the Promised Land.
Deuteronomy 1:5-10 (NIV): “East of the Jordan in the territory of Moab, Moses began to expound this law, saying: The Lord our God said to us at Horeb, ‘You have stayed long enough at this mountain. Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites; go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah, in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the Euphrates. See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.'”
In these verses from Deuteronomy, Moses recounts God’s command to the Israelites as they were preparing to enter the Promised Land. God instructed them to move forward from the mountain where they had stayed for a while and to possess the territories He promised to their ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. This passage reflects on God’s faithfulness to fulfill His covenant and His promise of the land to the Israelites’ descendants.
Both passages highlight God’s provision, guidance, and fulfillment of promises to the people of Israel, emphasizing His faithfulness in supplying their needs and fulfilling His pledges, particularly regarding the Promised Land.
