Text: Proverbs 20:6-7; 1 Corinthians 4:2
Key Verse: Psalms 12:1: “Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth.” (NLT)
Faithfulness and being faithful are interwoven and one cannot talk about the faithful man without talking about ‘faithfulness.’ There are some assumptions people hold today in relation to faithfulness. Some say that God no longer care about what man does as long as our heart is right. That means that God does not care about the correctness of our actions, as long as the motive is good. This is wrong! Some say that Grace covers man, irrespective of his failure to do things according to God’s ways.
Jesus addressed these misconceptions in Matthew 7:21, when He said: “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” That means it is possible to do things presumably for God and in the name of God without being faithful and without doing them faithfully.
You can assume that you are doing things for God, but you are not doing them faithfully. Jesus said they will say I did this and that in your name, but the fact remains that they were not what God wants and they were not the will of God. They never did those things faithfully unto Him and He will say to them, I don’t know you (Mathew 7:21-23).
We need to be faithful in the service of God in the local church either as a member or as a Pastor or in whatever assignment we are asked to do for God. In the contemporary times, although we serve in the church at different levels, God wants us to be faithful to Him in whatever we are assigned to do. You must show faithfulness in handling church projects and in whatever financial matter you are assigned to handle. God wants us to show a high level of faithfulness unto Him. In spending church fund, God wants you to show faithfulness and remain faithful to Him.
In some places today, there may be some financial abuses going on because faithful men and women are lacking. Many people have lost sense of accountability both to God and to the leadership. David cried unto God and said: “Help! Lord the faithful ones are fast disappearing on earth.” When Jesus gave the parable of the talents, it was to paint a picture of how some people were given money to do business and how they came back to give account (Mathew 25:14-30)
God wants you to be faithful in handling church money because it is God’s money. Church money are resources provided by God to promote the kingdom and if they are well utilised, souls will be saved and many will come to the knowledge of the Lord, but that is not the situation with some people today.
There are marks of unfaithfulness and it includes failure to declare and submit funds to the appropriate quartres; failure to record funds accurately; diversion of funds into personal use; collaboration with persons or individuals to embezzle funds; unscriptural means of raising funds in the church; borrowing and refusing to pay back; tithe default to God and unfaithfulness in marriage.
It cannot be overemphasised that the Bible says a faithful man or woman who can find? (Proverbs 20:6). Faithful people are fast disappearing in our time. I want to pray like David: help, Lord for the godly man ceaseth, for the faithful fail among the children of men. It is my prayer that you begin to demonstrate faithfulness to the glory of God and show faithfulness in whatever you do.
Today’s nugget: The Godly Man Ceaseth.
Prayer: Lord help me to show faithfulness in whatever I do.
