The Daily Fountain Daily Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 31 May 2019 – God’s Election
TOPIC: God’s Election
READ: Luke 1:39-49 King James Version (KJV)
39 Now Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah,
40 and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.
41 And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
42 Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
43 But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
45 Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.”

46 And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name.
THE MESSAGE:
Certain things happen that make us ask questions like why and how, especially when such occurrence is negative in nature. God once said to Moses that He would show mercy to whom He wanted to show mercy. Some people are created to be short in height, some others tall. God decides, we have no input to make. Some persons are fair in complexion while some are dark. It is God who elects whoever He wants to represent Him. One parable captures this vividly in Matthew 25: 14-30, where the owner of the servants gives them gifts of talents: one person, five (5) talents, another person, two (2) talents while yet another got one talent, each according to their ability. God’s election respects no barriers, tribe, culture or nature.
Just as in our text, Mary the mother of our Lord Jesus was not the only virgin in that land, but God elected her to give birth to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
By the reason of this, she became the blessed among women; an honour bestowed upon her for life. What has God elected you to do? What have you been chosen to do both for God and His kingdom? Remember that you are not the only person qualified to do that assignment, but God has preferred you. He will require an account from you.
PRAYER: Oh Almighty God, give me enabling grace not to disgrace Your election of my life, in Jesus Name, Amen.
