TOPIC: Releasing Your Spirit Man By Fasting (Seeds Of Destiny 16 June 2023)

SCRIPTURE:Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. Matthew 17:21

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Fasting maximises the spiritual strength of a Christian.

Seeds Of Destiny For Today 2023 MESSAGE:

In our previous study, we saw the power of fasting in subduing the flesh, thereby bringing man’s will in submission to the Will of God.

In our study today, we shall look at another benefit of fasting:
Fasting breaks the flesh and releases the Spirit

One thing to understand is that whatever humbles the flesh will strengthen the Spirit. Anything that minimizes the flesh will maximize the Spirit.

For example, the flesh loves to eat. When you deprive it of the food it loves to eat and use the time for spiritual activity, it will be minimized and the spirit will be maximized.

Also, the flesh loves to sleep, especially in the night. Deprive it a portion of that sleep and use it for spiritual activity, it will heighten spiritual intensity. When a man and his wife deny themselves of some level of intimacy, which is their marital right, for a season for the sake of spiritual activity, it can amplify the strength of their spirituality.

1 Corinthians 7:5 says,
Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

So, in the spiritual realm, it is a known fact that anything that is a deprivation of the flesh is a maximization of the spirit. That is the principle of the fast: fasting maximizes the spiritual strength of a Christian.

From our anchor Scripture, we understand that the disciples could not cast out the demon from a demon-possessed fellow for two reasons: First, unbelief. And second, inability to pray and fast.

Beloved, don’t be afraid to fast. Fasting will not reduce you; rather, it will increase you. Discipline yourself to embark on a profitable fast always.

Remember this: Fasting maximizes the spiritual strength of a Christian.

ASSIGNMENTS:

1. Deprive your flesh of excessive food and sleep through fasting, so you can strengthen your spirit.
2. Do it consistently to see long lasting results.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive the grace to deprive myself of excessive food and sleep by fasting so I can release my spirit. Help me to be consistent Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
