OPEN HEAVENS FOR 16TH MAY 2026

MEMORISE:

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” — Colossians 3:23-24

READ: 1 Peter 4:10-11 (KJV)

10. As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
11. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

MESSAGE:

Today, I will be concluding the series on footprints by discussing the footprints you leave in your workplace, business, or career. As a child of God, you are an ambassador of Christ, and your workplace is part of your mission field. The quality of your work, your attitude, and your relationships with colleagues and customers leave footprints that either draw people to Christ or push them away.

Some Christians behave differently in church on Sunday and in the office on Monday. They are holy in the sanctuary but dishonest, lazy, or rude at work. This is unacceptable. Colossians 3:23-24 says that whatever you do, you should do it heartily as unto the Lord, not unto men. This means that even when your boss is not watching, you should work with excellence because you are serving the Lord Christ.

Your diligence and integrity at work are footprints that can lead your colleagues to salvation. When they see that you do not cut corners, that you refuse bribes, that you are punctual, honest, and respectful even under pressure, they will ask about the source of your character. That is your opportunity to share the gospel.

On the other hand, if you are lazy, dishonest, or contentious at work, you leave bad footprints that make unbelievers mock Christianity. They will say, “If this is what a Christian is like, I don’t want to be one.”

Beloved, whether you are a CEO, a cleaner, a teacher, or a trader, your work is worship. Let your professional footprints glorify God and lead others to Him.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, help me to represent You well in my workplace and to leave footprints that lead others to Christ.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
2 Chronicles 31-33

HYMN: TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE

  1. Take my life and let it be
    Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
    Take my hands and let them move
    At the impulse of Thy love.

  2. Take my feet and let them be
    Swift and beautiful for Thee;
    Take my voice and let me sing
    Always, only for my King.

  3. Take my lips and let them be
    Filled with messages from Thee;
    Take my silver and my gold,
    Not a mite would I withhold.

  4. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
    At Thy feet its treasure store;
    Take myself, and I will be
    Ever, only, all for Thee.

BRIEF COMMENTARY

Based on Open Heavens 16th May 2026 – “Mind Your Footprints IV”

Your Workplace Is Your Mission Field

Pastor Adeboye concludes the “Mind Your Footprints” series by addressing where many Christians spend most of their waking hours: the workplace. Whether you are a CEO, a cleaner, a teacher, or a trader, your job is not separate from your faith—it is part of your worship.

The devotional confronts a common problem: Christians who are holy on Sunday but dishonest, lazy, or rude on Monday. This inconsistency leaves bad footprints that make unbelievers mock Christianity. When your work does not match your words, the gospel is discredited.

Work as Worship

Colossians 3:23-24 is the key scripture: “Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”

This means:

  • Even when the boss is not watching, work with excellence.

  • Even when no one will thank you, be diligent.

  • Even when you are underpaid, maintain integrity.

You are not ultimately serving your employer—you are serving the Lord Christ. Your promotion, your reward, and your validation come from Him.

The Footprints That Lead to Salvation

The devotional promises that your diligence and integrity will create opportunities for evangelism. When colleagues see that:

  • You refuse to cut corners

  • You reject bribes and dishonest gain

  • You are punctual, honest, and respectful under pressure

…they will ask, “What is different about you?” That question is your open door to share the gospel.

The Footprints That Cause Blasphemy

Conversely, bad footprints have the opposite effect. A lazy, dishonest, or contentious Christian gives unbelievers an excuse to reject Christ. They will say, “If this is what a Christian is like, I don’t want to be one.”

Your behavior at work is not private. It is a witness—either for or against the gospel.

Practical Takeaways

  1. Work as unto the Lord – Whether you are sweeping floors or leading a company, do it for God’s glory.

  2. Be consistent – Let your Monday match your Sunday.

  3. Excel in secret – Work diligently even when no one is watching. God sees.

  4. Use your character as an evangelism tool – Let your integrity open doors to share your faith.

  5. Remember your reward – Your ultimate promotion comes from God, not man.

Conclusion

Your workplace is not a break from your Christianity—it is an extension of it. Your professional footprints will outlast your career. Will they lead people to Christ or push them away?

Action Steps:

  1. This week, identify one area of your work where you have been inconsistent (punctuality, honesty, attitude, effort). Change it.

  2. Look for an opportunity to share why you work differently from others.

  3. Memorize Colossians 3:23-24 and recite it before starting work each day.
