Open Heaven For Teens 21 February 2023 – Praying Amiss?

TOPIC: Praying Amiss? [Open Heaven for Teens 21 February 2023]

MEMORISE: Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consumeb it upon your lusts. James 4:3

READ: 1 John 5:13-15

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Deuteronomy 1-2

MESSAGE:

There are different types of prayer – thanksgiving, confession of sins, and supplication for one’s needs. While the first two cannot go wrong, the last one can be done amiss, especially when it’s not in line with the will of God for a fellow. When you ask for the wrong things that are not important or pray with a selfish motive, God will not answer. For example, when you pray that someone should fail in order for you to succeed, you have prayed amiss because the prayer is selfish and not scriptural.

Thus, to get answers to your prayers, begin by thanking God for all His blessings. This will show that you’re not ungrateful. Thereafter, ask for His mercy, then make your requests and end by giving thanks. However, you need to know that God will pay attention to your requests if they are in line with His will. How then can you pray according to His will? Ask the Holy Spirit because He knows the mind of God. If you do this constantly, you will never pray amiss.

PRAYER POINT

Holy Spirit, please teach me how to pray according to the will of the Father

HYMN 8 – Forth In Your Name, O Lord, I Go,

  1. Forth in your name, O Lord, I go,
    My daily labor to pursue,
You only, Lord, resolved to know
In all I think or speak or do.
  2. The task your wisdom has assigned
    Here let me cheerfully fulfill;
In all my work your presence find,
And prove your good and perfect will.
  3. You may I set at my right hand,
Whose eyes my inmost secrets view,
And labor on at your command
And offer all my work to you.
  4. Help me to bear your easy yoke
In ev’ry moment watch and pray,
And still to things eternal look
And hasten to that glorious day.
  5. Then with delight may I employ
All that your bounteous grace has given,
And run my earthly course with joy,
And closely walk with you in heaven
