The apostle Paul, while asking the Galatians (and by extension all Christians) to renounce the works of the flesh that subject them to slavery of the law, urges them to be led by the Spirit. He then drew their attention to the results of being filled with the Holy Spirit by saying:
and. The fruit of the spirit is…………… V22-23a.

2. WHAT IS “FRUIT”?
1. THE OPPOSITE OF BEARING FRUIT
WHAT IS “FRUIT”?
A. The Bible uses many agricultural metaphors because they were easily understood in the highly agricultural culture of the time.
B. The expression “fruit of the Spirit” refers to the “results” we should see in our lives after receiving the Holy Spirit and working on our hearts over time (Rom 8:9; 12:1-2).
C. The apostle Paul gives us the components of the ‘fruit’:. . Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, temperance;…… Here is 5:22.
D. The metaphor of “fruit” helps us to see our faith as a tree with branches that may or may not bear fruit, depending on how we care for the tree itself.
and. If we give the tree food (the word of God) – 1Pi 1:23; 2:2, then it will grow.
ii. If we get rid of weeds and insects (sinful tendencies) -Ep 4:22-31; Col 3:8-10, then we keep the tree healthy.
iii. If we consult a professional gardener (God)-1Ch 16:11 then we will make sure we are on the right path.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Is it possible for a Spirit-filled Christian to not manifest certain attributes of the fruit of the Holy Spirit? If yes/no, explain it.
2. THE OPPOSITE OF BEARING FRUIT
A. If you’re a Christian and you’re not bearing the fruit of the Spirit in your life:
and. Better, you will know stagnation—you will not know growth (Ja 2:14-26).
ii. Worse, the result of “bad fruit” is death (Ro 6:20-23; Pr 14:12).
B. Notice that Galatians 5:22 begins with the word “but”. The apostle Paul tells us the opposite of these spiritual fruits.
C. Let’s take a look at the verses just before the list of fruits: “Gold, the works of the flesh are manifest, they are impurity, impurity, dissolution, idolatry, sorcery, animosity, quarrels, strife, divisions, sects, envy, drunkenness, the excesses of table, and such things. “. -Ga 5:19-21.
Here is a list of things a person without the influence of the Holy Spirit has to deal with.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Is a Christian who still manifests the works of the flesh truly saved?
SUMMARY: The faith of a believer (one who is filled with the Holy Spirit) is like a tree with branches that, if well maintained, will bear fruit, but if neglected, will bear grave consequences.
CONclusion: Our life of sin produces rotten, poisoned fruits, which reflect our sinful nature and hurt us in the end. Instead, the Holy Spirit produces beautiful, nourishing fruits that reflect God’s nature and will ultimately benefit our lives.
QUESTIONS:
* Why should a Christian bear the fruit of the Spirit?
*What characterizes the opposite of the fruit of the Spirit?
ASSESSMENT: What becomes of a Christian who does not manifest the fruit of the Holy Spirit?
CLOSING PRAYER: Father, please destroy every sinful habit that prevents me from bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
ASSIGNMENT: Mention five proofs that you have the fruit of the Spirit (2×5=10 points)
