[DCLM Daily Manna 25 April 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi] Text: Jeremiah 19:1-15? (KJV)

Key Verse: “Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words” (Jeremiah 19:15).

MESSAGE:

Revelling in false hope and relaxing in self-satisfaction is not only delusional but also dangerous. It is dangerous when one enjoys great privileges of provisions, peace, protection, popularity, power, pride of place and prime of position at someone’s behest and carelessly forgets one’s benefactor. “The river that disregards its source soon dries up”, as the adage says. Certainly, sooner than later, every action will attract commensurate repercussion.

God revealed His displeasure against the attitude of His people, Judah and Jerusalem. In the text, He accused them of forsaking Him. They made their land estranged and had turned to idolatry. Their leaders had desecrated the land with the blood of the innocent ones and the people defiantly went into abominable idol worship, burning their sons to Baal. All these drew the indignation of God, who had earlier favoured them. He proposed to deal ruthlessly with the ingrates as deeply as He had earlier favoured them. “…I will break this people and this city as one breaketh a potter’s vessel…”. God forewarned them in very clear terms.

Very often, many people fall into this same gulf that Judah and Jerusalem fell into. They enjoyed God’s favour in getting good jobs, prosperity in business, privileged position in office, great recognition in the society, deep knowledge, breakthroughs and rare feats. Instead of being humble and serve God with higher dedication as the Source of all they have, they get carried away by the euphoria of what they have and ruin their life. Whether it is an individual, a group or a nation that forgets God, the end result is always grievous and greatly unpalatable.

This is a great lesson for every thoughtful believer and heaven-bound Christian. The One who gave us what we have and placed us where we are can withdraw His support if we step beyond our boundaries.

Thought For The Day: An ingrate and a robber are one and the same.
