Sermon for today by Charles F. Stanley : Preparing for Rain While the Sun’s Shining

Topic: Preparing for Rain While the Sun’s Shining

Obedience to God must be your
top priority.

Following God’s will instead of your own will make a tremendous difference in your life, which is why you must make obedience to Him your top priority.

But to do so, you need to understand why submission plays such an important role in your relationship with God.

An excellent biblical example to illustrate this point is Noah. God called Noah to build an enormous ark, which was a request that must have seemed both impossible and illogical to him. Yet Noah complied
without asking questions (see Genesis 6-9).

Obeying God will not always be a
popular decision.
Obeying God will not always be a popular
decision. People will criticize you. They will laugh at you. But think about this:

Noah chose to walk with God in the midst of a corrupt society. In fact, the world had grown so wicked that God determined to
destroy every living human being on the face of the earth, with the exception of one family—Noah’s.

We can only imagine what those evil people must have said to Noah as they watched him day after day.

As Jesus said, “They were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark” (Matthew 24:38).

Soon after the raindrops started falling, all the mocking stopped. Noah had obeyed God in spite of what other people thought of him, and the Lord had spared him from the great flood that covered the earth. If Noah had listened to his critics, he would not have built the ark, and he would have been swept away with everyone else. Instead, he chose to obey God.

The word of the LORD came to
Elijah . . . saying, “Go, present
yourself to Ahab, and I will send
rain on the earth.” So Elijah
went to present himself to Ahab;
and there was a severe famine in
Samaria (1 Kings 18:1–2).
